Hello, Wikipedians!

I am planning to contribute to this article by adding more information about Vice Ganda's early life, personal life, influences, updated information, and also more illustrations. The article doesn't talk that much about his early life, especially before his fame, such as his life growing up and as a boy. Moreover, the article rarely has any information about his problems, personal struggles/hardships, and the deeper side of him and his life that we rarely know about (personal life). Furthermore, I want to add information about Vice Ganda's influences, such as which comedians influenced him to become a comedian/have his certain type of comedy and or what, in general, influenced him to become a comedian. Also, the article should be updated once in awhile, so I want to add/update any information on him and his life, such as family-related information and where he lives. Lastly, I want to add more illustrations, such as picture, because right now, there is only one illustration, which is a picture of Vice Ganda. That way, the article will be more entertaining to read and will help readers get a better image/understanding of Vice Ganda, his life, and his relevance. With that being said, please let me know what you think about this and if you have any advice. Thank you and I'm looking forward to working with you all on Vice Ganda's Wikipedia article! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Collegegirl123 (talkcontribs) 20:13, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

RfC for last name

[edit]

Should we use Vice Ganda's last name, Viceral, or his stage name, Vice Ganda, to refer to him in the article? "Viceral" as a last name is not really a last name that is notable for Vice Ganda, with not many people knowing her by said last name. There are also instances in articles where a stage name is used to refer to someone instead of their real last name, namely, Megan Thee Stallion. Would like to hear people's thoughts on this, thanks. shanghai.talk to me 09:13, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@RogueShanghai: Oh geez, I just realized I misunderstood your question. For the article title, what I just said will apply. But for addressing the person throughout the article, the common practice is we should use his actual surname, i.e. in this case is Viceral. The first sentence of the article would already give the information to the reader that his surname is Viceral so there is no problem using Viceral throughout the rest of the article. I apologize for the confusion. Engr. Smitty Werben 16:44, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Engr. Smitty: Oh, I don't mind it. I do oppose your take, however, as Vice Ganda is not really referred to with the last name Viceral. Not many people know her by this name, and if you search up "Vice Ganda" on Google for articles vs "Viceral", you get 48,000 articles using the term "Vice Ganda" and 1,800 articles using his last name, "Viceral.", Again, it's a matter of notability, not necessarily about common practice. Megan Thee Stallion is not referred to in her article as "Megan Pete", rather, her stage name is used. shanghai.talk to me 16:49, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RogueShanghai: See MOS:CHANGEDNAME. Also see the example given there, that is Pope John Paul I. His birth surname (Luciani) was used to address him throughout the rest of the article. Engr. Smitty Werben 16:49, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Engr. Smitty:"Pope John Paul" is an honorable nickname given to him by the church and isn't a celebrity, at least by our modern standards of fame. Look at the articles for Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, both featured articles. Their stage names are used to refer to them throughout the article "Perry released her fifth studio album, Gaga released her sixth record", not "Germanotta had released, Hudson had released" etc etc. shanghai.talk to me 16:52, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RogueShanghai: Regarding your example of Megan Thee Stallion, there are actually inconsistencies in the article. At the section "Early life and education", Pete was used to address her. At the section "Trademarks", Megan alone was used. If there should be a confusion, we should always refer back to WP:MOS, not to base on other articles that could be prone to inconsistencies. But I see your point. If we are to use Vice Ganda's popular name, should we use Ganda or the whole Vice Ganda? If it can be shown that "Ganda" is a surname, then I support using Ganda throughout the article. Engr. Smitty Werben 16:57, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
RogueShanghai Checking on the sources of her article, it seems that either "Vice Ganda" or "Vice" is frequently used when addressing her, not "Ganda", so personally I would go with either of the two, leaning on "Vice Ganda". Engr. Smitty Werben 17:02, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I know and speak Tagalog, and "Ganda" is actually a word for "Beautiful", so the equivalent would be saying "Beautiful starred in the hit movie".. I'd lean more on Vice Ganda since it's what's been most used for her and is also gramatically correct, english wise. Thanks. shanghai.talk to me 17:23, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus

[edit]

Since no one really opposed the RfC (and this already seems to be consensus for articles regarding celebrities in the public eye who aren't known by their last name anyway) I promptly implemented the RfC. Now, all sentences that say "Viceral" have been changed to "Vice Ganda" for stage name consistency. Thanks to everyone who helped! shanghai.talk to me 08:53, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

On Vice Ganda v. Axel and Christine, what should be the title of the issue?

[edit]

I made a recent edit on Vice Ganda's list of controversies, which added info about his issue with Axel and Christine last May 31, 2024. The title I put there was "False accusation of malice".

While community consensus seems to point to the issue as a false accusation, I am not sure whether to descirbe the issue as such, especially since there's the NPOV policy.

So, how should the issue be named? Coconutinstead (talk) 08:14, 11 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
