GENRE OF THE BAND (very important)

[edit]

Is there a way to change the genre of the band on wikipedia and to block this like in some other band pages ? Alesana is definitelly NOT a Post-Hardcore/Screamo/Emo band. Screamo is like Saetia, Suis La Lune, Post-Hardcore is like Glassjaw, Fugazi, At The Drive-In and Emo is like Sunny Day Real Estate, Embrace, Texas Is The Reason... please just listen to these bands and you'll see that they have nothing to do with Alesana. Thanks.

I don't understand why that link was labeled as a site, it's an interview with Shawn Milke. I don't see any Wiki-type material in the article at all. Do I not understand why that notice is there or was it a mistake? 30daysinAKK (talk) 16:52, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion about Metalcore in Alesana

[edit]

I'm Shadyz2010, I think Alesana is not Metalcore because they have a sweetcore or post hardcore emo genre about their lyrics, i have deleted Metalcore genre in Alesana article because i do not think Alesana is Metalcore, they are a post hardcore-emo branch, but they are not metalcore, deathcore, screamo, non of these genres, they are Post hardcore-Sweetcore-Emo. --Shadyz2010 (talk) 04:04, 25 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You've missed out on all of the genre warring.

Alesana is labeled as metalcore on the Wikipedia article because reliable sources have stated that Alesana is metalcore (the same is true for screamowhich makes me cringe and post-hardcore). Read verifiability for more information. Also,

  • sweetcore isn't a genre, it was a term made by the band
  • "emo" appeared on the page before, but no one found any useful sources to keep it there, so it was removed.
It cannot be emo, screamo or post-hardcore, because all of these three are punk subgenres, while the music they are making resembles metal rather than punk. tetraedycal 02:00, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with this guy, Shawn Milke once called the band a "pop metal band" and that would be the most accurate out of anything. They're generally not heavy enough to be called metalcore, nor not soft enough to be post-hardcore or screamo (nor not even punk enough). I guess they're just a screamy melodic metal band if describing them could be put into any terms. • GunMetal Angel 10:42, 4 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Metalcore is defined as an amalgamation of hardcore punk and extreme metal, and typically demonstrates heavy influence from melodic death metal and groove metal (examples include Unearth and As I Lay Dying.) Alesana's sound is more or less definable as post-hardcore — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sweetsweetcyanide (talkcontribs) 16:55, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

this article has become pretty trashy.

howabout we all stop the genre warring for a bit and clean up the page? 72.42.159.227 (talk) 13:26, 7 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

October 2004? Okay, something isn't making sense…

[edit]

It reads that the band formed officially in October 2004, and while I understand some of the members reside from Baltimore before moving to North Carolina (where Dennis Lee has always lived...ect.) This doesn't make much sense because the first EP, Try This with Your Eyes Closed says it was recorded during February of 2004 and includes Lee along with everyone else that were in that Baltimore/NC time period playing on it. Sooo can someone officially find out when the band really started or when that EP was really recorded? If anything, I believed the band began around the 2003-ish time period. • GunMetal Angel 22:31, 3 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I'm insane but I vaguely recall reading that Dennis and Shawn were together, and recorded the Try This with Your Eyes Closed EP before Alesana was the Alesana we all know today...it's possible I may be remembering this incorrectly though, so someone would have to check me on that one. VhanginTact (talk) 16:38, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This documentation clarifies that Lee was not in the band until their relocation to North Carolina. Which leaves this all bent on finding out when this band actually relocated to the state. Someone needs to discover this, because if it was actually in October of 2004, then the statement that they recorded their EP in February of 2004 does not make sense. It's time to fix these errors • GunMetal Angel 18:27, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Alesana genres

[edit]

I would like to include in the article gender Alesana indie rock. Here are my sources: http://www.allmusic.com/artist/alesana-p795156 GlamMetalANIKILATOR (talk) 20:56, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Source does not say indie rock • GunMetal Angel 21:50, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, he says, in paragraph styles. GlamMetalANIKILATOR (talk) 23:40, 28 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
That box is just used for categorization, not determining what genre the band is. Alesana is not indie • GunMetal Angel 00:39, 29 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are there any reliable sources citing them as emo?

[edit]

I don't see any sources saying that their genre is emo, so if no one can come up with any sources saying that it is emo then I will change it. 76.104.188.248 (talk) 22:34, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Are you serious? It's been on the page for quite a while, dude. Also, do not threaten us with "I will change this if there is no source", that's not how the project works. • GunMetal Angel 23:53, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure how you view that as a threat. But i couldn't find any source showing that it was emo and if they aren't considered emo then they shouldn't be labeled as such. Thank you for supplying the source. Your hostility is not necessary. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.104.188.248 (talk) 02:35, 25 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Screamo?

[edit]

Why is screamo cited in the "musical style" session but it isn't cited in the infobox? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 177.83.15.185 (talk) 22:18, 29 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Because screamo is a controversial word (and a very stupid one at that). Also I think it's because there's enough genres in the infobox. If all of what was sourced was in there, it would be like seven or so genres. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.225.137.223 (talk) 03:55, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Melodic hardcore

[edit]

Possible to say they're melodic hardcore? -- 58.168.47.192 (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lolno • GunMetal Angel 22:56, 2 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You can't just say no. What's the reason why you think it shouldn't be listed as melodic hardcore? Mike provides his melodic vocals with hardcore music. Surely that's counted as melodic hardcore. --121.217.137.22 (talk) 07:04, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Dude ^ you are fucking retarded, go away 69.225.131.91 (talk) 03:41, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, that was highly uncalled for. No need for insults. Talk pages are for discussing (which includes say out your personal opinions) not for insults. --58.164.64.5 (talk) 23:15, 23 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Melodic Metalcore

[edit]

Under genre, metalcore should be changed to melodic metalcore because Alesana definitely is not just a straight up metalcore band, especially on their more recent releases. Frail Wings is the only album of theirs that I would call true metalcore. With the increased usage of clean vocals over unclean and more dynamic guitar playing, Alesana has moved in a much more melodic direction and the genres on the page should reflect that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.83.9.251 (talk) 17:49, 23 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
