Sorting / Alphabetization of name

[edit]

Should this name be sorted under "A" or under "L"? Anyone familiar with Mongolian language names should be able to help. Thanks. --Eliyahu S Talk 12:11, 29 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The result of the move request was: Moved to Alatan Gadasu per nom, as evidenced in Xinhua ref and e.g. http://www.all-athletics.com/node/19448 No such user (talk) 11:19, 10 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A LatangadasuAlatan Gadasu – Or Alatangadasu. See sources like [1][2][3] for the first proposed form, or [4][5] for the second. "A" is not a surname; the whole thing taken together is a Chinese transcription of a single Mongolian personal name (though the name consists of two words ᠠᠯᠲᠠᠨ altan and ᠭᠠᠳᠠᠰᠤ gadasu). 59.149.124.29 (talk) 10:05, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Also FWIW, plenty of Chinese-language sources like [6][7] put an interpunct and write it as 阿拉坦·嘎达苏. (If you search without the interpunct, it's hard to separate out hits for this guy and for the towns by the same name, so I don't know which one is more common). 59.149.124.29 (talk) 10:05, 3 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
