Comment: Does anyone know any places online that may have historical logs or ledgers of the various cables sent-out by Hitler or the SS during the war??? There's some urban-legeneds in Barbados concerning this cable overall and it would be good (with a source) to either prove it as true or false... One claim is the Barbadian Parliament was the first of the British colonies to declare war on the Nazis(?)[1] Going back to the 1650s under England, the English government had granted Barbados with local autonomy over its parliament (Under the Treaty of Oistins a.k.a. Barbados Charter) in exchange for the Barbadian Parliament agreeing to swear continued alligence to the Monarchy.[2] The agreement preceeded the Acts of Union creating the United Kingdom, so the Barbadian Parliament could *have* had the power to declare war. I emailed the German government to inquire if there were any historical telegram records sent by Hitler or his government to Barbados. I have not heard back from them though. It has been long said in Barbados that Hitler sent a cable to the Barbados Government stating that if Barbados agreed to keep out of the war, the Germans would deed the neighbouring (British colony) of Tobago to Barbados. Not due to Barbados' size but, due to Germany not wanting Barbados to start a chain-reaction with other British colonies all likewise joining in the war. The Germans did form an agreement with the French colonies in the Caribbean to persuade them to remain uninvolved so it certainly was something happening at the time. But I've never seen an actual source regarding Barbados. CaribDigita (talk) 19:30, 7 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
