ISIL

[edit]

Foreign policy chief of EU is attributing the attack to ISIL. Articles here and there saying that Tunisia had thousands of its citizens leave to join that group. When more has been written, and from reliable sources, there could be a section on this theory. Unless ISIL admit to it, of course. '''tAD''' (talk) 17:16, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Moved

[edit]

I moved it from page 2015 Tunis hostage crisis to Bardo National Museum attack. I don't have a strong preference (e.g. 'shooting' would also make sense as a title, although it says they also used grenades). However, I don't think 'hostage crisis' is a good title since people have now been killed. Superm401 - Talk 18:54, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agree. Previous seemed to be a temporary title when details were still cloudy. '''tAD''' (talk) 19:06, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Nationalities of casualties

[edit]

The French wiki article includes the nationalities of the people who died and got injured, it might be interesting to add them to the English article, if the info can be verified. PMLF (talk) 00:21, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The dead, sure. The BBC source I read about this in noted nationalities almost straight away. Those countries will publicly mourn them and invoke them in speeches. But categorizing the injured seems trivial, pending feature pieces about particular injured. Paralyzed and blind victims sometimes get a spotlight, very rarely the grazed or hyperventilating. InedibleHulk (talk) 00:46, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I don't think there is any need to mention the nationalities of the injured in that section as the info is mentioned in the infobox section anyway. But the info on deaths is different in the French and English languages articles. PMLF (talk) 00:49, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ours only goes to 19, for one. At least when I wrote this. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:04, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I figured it out, pretty simple. We don't count the attackers. Not sure where they got the extra tourist from, though. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:17, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, it wasn't a tourist, it was a cop. We should note him, too. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:19, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That aside, there are differences regarding the nationalities of the casualties, there are two French deaths in the English article missing in the French one and three German and one Brazilian death in the French article missing in the Brazilian one. Three Polish deaths in the French article, one in the English one. I am not sure about the details though, maybe related to double nationalities or conflicting info in different sources. But it's something to keep an eye on. PMLF (talk) 01:27, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Never use any language's Wikipedia as a source, unless it cites a reliable one. Probably best to just drop the table for now, till one of those shows up. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:35, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, maybe some official info will come up later, for now it seems just bits here and there, for example EFE reported the supposed Brazilian death, but no name was given and Brazil's authorities haven't confirmed it yet.PMLF (talk) 01:37, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That cop was already one of the Tunisians, so 21 is was right. The source only suggested otherwise. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:51, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I updated the table, there are still few unanswered questions:

  • some websites put 4 French deaths, other 3
  • some websites put 2 not yet identified deaths (unknown)
  • somebody wrote 5 Tunisian deaths, I have confirmation only for 3

I have a problem with referencing, while referencing the article I get several different references, could anyone explain how to repost the same reference number instead of duplicating everything please? Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eu.Ca.88. (talkcontribs) 09:19, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Victims

[edit]

The italian victims are four[1]:

  • Italy Francesco Caldara, retired 64 year old from Novara which was on a cruise with his girlfriend;
  • Italy Orazio Conte, employee of the Municipality of Turin, on vacation with his wife.
  • Italy Antonella Sesino, 54 years old, employee of the Municipality of Turin.
  • Italy Giuseppina Biella, 70 years old from Monza, but who have long resided with her husband Sergio Senzani in Pietra Ligure.[2]

The world extends beyond Italy. If you keep re-inserting this, put equal detail on the other nationalities.

The Russian victim is:

  • Russia Galina Potapenko, 52 years old, living since 10 years in Sarnico (Italy), nurse with Russian origins. Was on a cruise with a female friend. [3]

Quote farm

[edit]

Could we trim back the huge collection of verbatim quotes? Wikipedia is not a collection of quotes. --John (talk) 19:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This happens with every single event with a reaction section. The only cure is time, I've found. Trying to shrink it before the buzz dies down leads to more frustration than conciseness. But yeah, if this time's finally different, that'd be cool. InedibleHulk (talk) 21:55, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've trimmed back the quotes per WP:OVERQUOTE and converted the bullet points into prose per WP:PROSE. It is my opinion that no more material like this should be added. --John (talk) 00:22, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Mine too. Let's nip this one in the bud. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:24, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Libya

[edit]

In the background section, I put the sourced fact that ISIS are occupying part of Libya. It was removed because apparently as it is not in Tunisia, it is not relevant. I think it is important for the reader to know that this Islamic State of "Iraq and the Levant" has expanded out of that geographical area, and is a threat in North Africa in general.
