Unsourced material in need of sourcing

[edit]

I have moved the following unsourced material from the article to this Talk Page until it can be properly sourced per WP:NOR/WP:V/WP:CS:

  • Some scenes from the Nickelodeon television show The Adventures of Pete and Pete were shot in Bayonne. Scenes that took place in Wellsville High School were shot in Bayonne High School and P.S. #14.
  • The 1996 TV show Matt Waters starring Montel Williams, with Williams portraying a fictional high school teacher, was filmed almost entirely in Bayonne, with scenes shot at Bayonne High School.
  • An Episode of NBC's "Third Watch" concerning school violence was filmed in the halls of BHS.
  • The music videos Jeremy by Pearl Jam, Someday by Mariah Carey and Popular by Nada Surf were filmed on location at Bayonne High School.
  • The 2006 film version of Strangers with Candy shot scenes taking place at Flatpoint High inside Bayonne High School.
  • It is currently featured on every episode of MTV's High School Stories: Scandals, Pranks & Controversies.
  • Bayonne High School was featured in scenes of the 2002 film Swimfan.
  • Several MTV short-commercials were shot on location at BHS's surrounding campus.
  • A Foot Locker commercial was filmed around the school and in the ice rink.
  • Bayonne High School pop-punk act, Hudson, had a song featured in the 2006 film John Tucker Must Die.
  • Featured in Bullet for My Valentine Video "Waking the Demon"
  • Scenes from the movie Can't Hardly Wait were filmed at Bayonne High School

unencyclopedic content in athletic section.

[edit]

Per school article guidelines, athletic achievements at less than state champion level are unencyclopedic. Quoting WP:WPSCH/AG#OS, "Major extra curricular championships will be defined as the highest possible championship a team can win from that activity's organizing committee. In the United States, this would nominally be a "state championship". Individual awards should generally not be listed. National championships, when referenced, may also be listed." So why did you put back all the conference and county champs? It isn't an issue of verifiability, it is an issue of excessive content. Imagine a school with a long tradition in a particular sport. Listing of every conference champ would take 6 pages. Gtwfan52 (talk) 04:37, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is a good example of athletic achievements that are notable, backed by ample reliable and verifiable sources, as well as being clear and concise. A team that played in a competitive count championship for 19 consecutive years is a notable and encyclopedic claim, just one of the more prominent such material included in the article. Schools with the greatest accomplishments will see more detail of winning a national championship and less about other accomplishments. It's a balance that has been struck fairly well in articles for New Jersey's several hundred public and private high schools, as well as outside the Garden State. Alansohn (talk) 15:58, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Notability refers to article subjects only, not their content. Nightscream (talk) 17:35, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So, again I ask: on what basis did you decide to ignore the school article guidelines and put all that stuff back? Guidelines reflect the community consensus as to what should be in an article. Standardization of content between articles of the same type has been standard practice in encyclopedias well before Wikipedia ever came along, and it makes finding information easier for the users of Wikipedia. I am unaware of any specific guidelines for schools in New Jersey. Could you point me to those please?Gtwfan52 (talk) 20:02, 27 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
