Regarding the proposed name change to Alpha CVn:

It seems this proposal was never added to Wikipedia:Requested moves, and it was not added to this talk page either. So I have removed the notice from the article page.

Two points:

  • Second, I normally strongly support using Bayer designations for article titles of star names because in most cases the traditional names are either completely obscure or non-unique or have multiple spellings and so forth. However, in a few cases the traditional name is indeed the most commonly used name (Vega, Capella, Arcturus, Polaris, etc) and Cor Caroli is one such case, perhaps because of the unwieldy multisyllabic length of "Alpha Canum Venaticorum". The name "Chara" on the other hand is mostly unknown in English. So in this case, applying the general Wikipedia principle of using common names, the most appropriate page title is Cor Caroli.

It seems that "Chara", confusingly, can refer to either Alpha or Beta Canum Venaticorum. -- Curps 23:32, 9 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It seems to be unsure whether the name is in honour of Charles I or celebrates Charles II's restoration. I added a brief description here why there's an uncertainty and changed some other pages to say I and II. (One page said I, the other said II)--86.130.147.16 22:09, 13 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Sunspots"

[edit]

Shouldn't the word "sunspots" be changed to "starspots," in the paragraph discussing the magnetic field? Actually, it might be nice to just change the meaning of "sunspots" to include "starspots." Broolaf2 23:18, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Combined magnitude

[edit]

"Cor Caroli is a binary star which has a combined apparent magnitude of +2.89". This statement seems inaccurate. If the primary is of +2.89 and secondary of +5.5, the combined magnitude of the pair should be slightly brighter. Pomona17 (talk) 17:07, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
