I'm struggling with this one. While there is little doubt that Evans is notable in his field and a published author, I'm having trouble with enough material. He is what he is and he's published books. I know t he list of publications is nowhere near complete as he publishes under Craig A. Evans, CA Evans and C Evans and in the case of the latter two, there are other authors in different fields with his name. I think the article is better than it was, but I don't know waht else warrants addition at this point. Travellingcari (talk) 20:13, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure either. We have to be careful not to use unreliable sources, especially when they report on a topic's high status. There was a reference to a press release and to an apologetics site that were not reliable for the topic. Jonathan Tweet (talk) 19:44, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

major scholar on historical Jesus?

[edit]

This guy isn't an expert on historical Jesus. Some Christians are: Wright, Borg, Crossan, Theissen, etc. If he's an expert, let's see a good reference, not a press release, and not an apologist's opinion. Jonathan Tweet (talk) 19:49, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Not a reliable source, but this is Ehrman's opinion of him. StAnselm (talk) 19:59, 7 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • By our usual WP:PROF standards, there should be no difficulty in showing him notable. Most of his books are published by very reputable publishers, not all of them Evangelical. And they are in some cases in many hundreds of libraries (in addition to those of his monographs that were JSNT or JSOT supplements, which hundreds of libraries subscribe to) DGG ( talk ) 20:27, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So what DOES he argue regarding to the historical Jesus?

[edit]

The article lays out that he disagrees with the likes of Ehrman and apparently sees the "mainstream" view of historical Jesus as flawed, but could this article try and do more to lay out what he does believe about the historical Jesus? Hobbitschuster (talk) 13:23, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
