"Edmond Hoyle (1672 - August 29, 1769), also known as Edmund Hoyle" can somebody think of an appropriate replacement for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.179.81.173 (talk) 14:07, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the "also known as Edmund Hoyle", pending some actual source that makes this particular misspelling of Hoyle's name notable. 198.189.164.204 (talk) 01:04, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Portrait of Hoyle?

[edit]

Why do we think this portrait is of Hoyle? The best evidence is that no portraits of Hoyle are known to exist. See Marshall, "Books on Gaming" in Notes and Queries, 7th Series. June 22, 1889. pp 481-2. Trictrac (talk) 01:54, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the image as unconfirmed, having previously added it myself from a source I can no longer recall. Your citation is convincing and I can find nothing to substantiate its further use. -- Netoholic @ 14:00, 1 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
