The gallery could use a photograph of a Cattleya Hardyana (not to mention a Cattleya aurea). Jay L09 (talk) 19:03, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For anyone sufficiently determined to try to bring this page up to encyclopedic quality, please see the older version here for some material that was deleted in a WP:POV editing war. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 13:58, 20 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Possible expansion to non-orchids?

[edit]

The ICNCP 8th edition, 2009, says that grexes can only be used for orchids, but there was a proposal to reinstate greges for other groups in Hanburyana volume 7 from 2013. I asked a colleague who is a horticultural nomenclature specialist, who says that the IHC2014 congress did make nomenclature decisions (unlike the 2010 congress) and the ninth edition of the ICNCP will be published soon. In the meantime, there is no published account of which nomenclature proposals were accepted by the congress (and there may be others that were not listed in Hanburyana). However (unlike the procedure with the International Botanical Congress and the ICN), the ICNCP does not come into force until it is published, so the eighth edition is still in force (so it is still true that grexes can only be used for orchids).
