Lake Hannington (Lake Bogoria)

[edit]

Bishop James Hannington discovered (from the European perspective) Lake Hannington in 1885 while travelling to his diocese in Uganda. The lake (now Lake Bogoria) is located in Kenya, north of the town of Nakuru at latitude 0.25, longitude: 36.1. The lake is in an equatorial area of high volcanic activity and has many geysers. There are around 200 hot springs at three onshore sites while other hot springs discharge directly from the lake floor. I found that the temperature of the springs necessitated collection of the water with a canvas rather than a plastic bucket. Douglasson (talk) 20:31, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
