Photoshop picture

[edit]

Is the current picture of him terribly photoshopped?

No, he looks like that. People who have had large amounts of aggressive cosmetic surgery usually do look strange. --Ef80 (talk) 22:39, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Fluff content

[edit]

Beyond the lead, much of this article is "fluff", or non-encyclopedic. I will leave it to more experienced editors to delete some of it, as appropriate. But I will edit it if it doesn't change over some reasonable period of time. Arbalest Mike (talk) 18:17, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Arbalest Mike (talk) 17:32, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Arbalest Mike: Thanks for that. I've replaced the bit about Celebrity Big Brother though as it was well sourced to the BBC and also removed a crappy source about rib surgery. SmartSE (talk) 17:44, 17 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Here are a pair of articles on Alves's removal of four ribs, which he did at the Miko Plastic Surgery Clinic in Beverly Hills under a five-hour operation with Dr. Michael Obeng M.D. (both articles also contains clips of the surgery which was filmed): https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/human-ken-doll-rodrigo-alves-11828076

On gender and the use of pronouns

[edit]

I can't say I know of any policy page that deals with the use of gender pronouns in Wikipedia articles, though I suspect he article on Bruce Jenner has hashed this out with some thoroughness. At any rate, I have just revised the article to remove as many such pronouns as possible, and then resorted to using the masculine pronouns only with regard to the appearance on the Big Brother program, in which she appeared as male. This seems to make the most sense given historical context. I also made clear in the close of the article that she now identifies as female. Please consider these things before making any wholesale changes to the gender pronouns used in the article. Many such terms can simply be avoided through careful wording. Thanks. That very Manual of Style section encourages editors to avoid confusion by using gender-neutral phrasing ("became a parent" vs. "fathered a child"). What you have done by reverting my edits contradicts this. Have requested a third opinion. A loose necktie (talk) 05:41, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly please allow me to apologize for being so short. You deserved a more fully thought response besides just a link to the information.
As a rule a subject’s latest statement on their gender identity is what we use for the entire article with few exceptions. A trans woman, in this case, comes to terms with their now-new identity but we may never know when they actually knew they were a woman, some knew at the youngest of ages, others later.
Could you point out what phrase is in the article that is confusing? Gleeanon409 (talk) 06:55, 6 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is confusing for readers to read that "she" preferred N—- rs as sexual partners (I can't type it) while "he" was a participant on the Big Brother program. Not to mention that the only photo we have of "her" is as a man. Doesn't this seem confusing to you? And if we could at least skirt the confusion by avoiding gendered pronouns, wouldn't that be best? I tried, and you reverted my edits. A loose necktie (talk) 08:09, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If it can be of any help, Rodrigo stated in an interview a few years ago with OK! Online that he indeed intended to have a sex change later in life but that he for the moment felt happy being a man, saying; "The truth is that I'm very happy to be a man for now... but I refuse to age as a man.". https://www.ok.co.uk/celebrity-news/rodrigo-alves-human-ken-doll-14472329

That being said, Rodrigo has stated that she has always been very feminine, but going by what she, then he, stated in his very own words about being happy being a man at that stage of her life, it appears that it would therefore be fine to use male pronouns for Rodrigo pre-transitionwise.

To be certain, however, someone could simply try to contact Rodrigo and simply ask what pronouns she would be okay with pre-transitionwise. Okama-San (talk) 02:34, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It would have to be approved to misgender an article subject partways on her article but it may be worth considering. Gleeanon409 (talk) 14:43, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Third opinion

[edit]

Jack Frost (talk · contribs) wants to offer a third opinion. To assist with the process, editors are requested to summarize the dispute in a short sentence below.

Given that the subject has changed gender over time, I wanted to remove the use of gendered pronouns wherever possible, but this was undone by Gleeanon409. A loose necktie (talk) 07:59, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

You misgendered Her by making a bunch of those pronouns ‘he’ instead of ‘she’, in your talk page post above you persisted to deadname Caitlyn Jenner, which shows a mindset to disrespect trans women. We have policies against that I will enforce Wikipedia’s rules which are clear enough. Don’t misgender trans people. Gleeanon409 (talk) 14:43, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Honestly, I could not remember Caitlyn's name at the time. I grew up with Bruce. I'm old! But none of that should have any bearing here. I only turned "she" into "he" with regard to the Big Brother section; in the rest of the article, I removed the gendered pronouns. And for what it's worth, I'm gay myself. Please don't accuse me of being insensitive to gender-related concepts or issues, I'm actually pretty hip to them. Which also has no bearing. Because mostly, I don't want to confuse the reading public. That, above all, is my goal. I have no other agenda. A loose necktie (talk) 20:29, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Well thank you for clearing that up. It may seem confusing but our policy is to switch over the entire article to represent the subject’s latest gender identity, even if it may seem confusing. Gleeanon409 (talk) 23:21, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Third opinion by Jack Frost

3O Response: Thank-you for your patience and for the summaries; they are most helpful. It appears that the dispute may have already resolved, although I will provide the Third Opinion as requested. As has been identified, the relevant policy is MOS:GENDERID: This states, in part, Any person whose gender might be questioned should be referred to by the pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns... that reflect that person's latest expressed gender self-identification. This applies in references to any phase of that person's life unless the subject has indicated a preference otherwise. My understanding is that Roddy Alves has not indicated a preference otherwise, and therefore the relevant wording used in the article would be she/her/hers. I do tend toward the view that the removal of pronouns, possessive adjectives, and gendered nouns from articles, where possible, does address this issue quite satisfactorily. Although I acknowledge that this is not always feasible and not explicit in policy. I hope that this has been helpful. Jack Frost (talk) 11:48, 9 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Outdated image

[edit]

The picture of Jessica Alves was taken before her transition and is now outdated. It should be replaced with a more recent one. 107.4.36.248 (talk) 19:36, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
