Question

[edit]

The Roman road Via Egnatia ran well south of the Jirecek line. There were many important Roman colonies along its route, for example Philippi. Does the assertion of the Jirecek line preclude survival of any Roman settlements along the Via Enignata? Eravian (talk) 11:36, 9 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Philippi was not a Roman Colony. It was founded by Philip II, thus the name Philippi (Philipians) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.103.65.216 (talk) 12:24, 13 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

it was 'founded' by philip but it was also a roman colony...though i doubt any surviving latinspeaking population (which was a minority in the first place i believe) contributed anything to the later vlach element..87.202.25.164 (talk) 23:52, 1 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Line is very important on the debate on the ethnogenesis of Romanian and Aromanian peoples

[edit]

It is unlikely that the birthplaces of these peoples were south of this line. In particular Aromanian settlements in Northern Greece were probably established by refugees from the Northern provinces invaded by slavs.--Deguef (talk) 12:47, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Aromanians are included in the "Romanian/Vlach", so their separate mentioning is superfluous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.25.62.118 (talk) 05:17, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with your edit. Kromid (talk) 08:13, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Romanians, Vlachs, and Aromanians are all different Latin-speaking groups, hence the different articles that exist on each one of them. Just noticed the edit and reinstated it. Demetrios1993 (talk) 09:46, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Super Dromaeosaurus:Hello. What do you think of maybe taking out all of the Latin-speaking individual groups that are included, which aren't even all (we also have Istro-Romanian), and change it with Balkan Romance languages instead? This way the sentence will be concise and inclusive of all the relevant branches. Demetrios1993 (talk) 11:38, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I don't think it is neccessary. The Jireček Line never had any particular effect on the Istro-Romanians since they emigrated from Transylvania. I think the text is fine in its current state. Super Ψ Dro 11:47, 5 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
