Spelling

[edit]

Although the sometimes spelled otherwise, the official spelling of the village is Choirokoitia and NOT Khirokitia. See:

  1. Government of Cyprus statistics [1]
  2. Governmental Map [2]
  3. Unesco [3]

These are all based on the scandalous "standardisation" techniques of Menelaos Christodoulou.

All archaeological literature mentions Khirokitia, except those after 1987. Neo ^ 10:59, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

odd discrepency between Le Brun finding occupation 7th to 4th Mill then in final paragraph says island uninhabited 6000 Bc for 1500 years cant have it both ways...

The second quote (gov map) is "page not found".
Regardless of these quotes the town still calls itself Khirokitia [4]
Brittannica calls it Khirokitia also [5]
It is still the most used spelling by far in archaeological journals as well as on google scholar
Lastyl the Cyprus government portal gives it as the K spelling here [6]
As the page is about the archaeological site I am going to move it back to the K spelling
