Notable?

[edit]

I can't really tell what this article is about. I've attempted to do some minor editing and introduce sections, but that didn't improve it very much. I'm tagging for notability and would recommend deletion. Even though there is a single reference, it doesn't seem to establish notability. JimVC3 (talk) 22:40, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'd agree with deletion. While there are some parallels to something like List of Atlantic hurricanes before 1600, that at least is a complete list with many storms. This is for one random year. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:34, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I propose we retitle this to Pacific typhoons in 1853 or something. YE Pacific Hurricane 03:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
For the reason above, I contest speedy deletion. YE Pacific Hurricane 16:25, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
This one is WP:Proposed deletion, not WP:Speedy deletion. What reason above do you mean? --Stfg (talk) 16:40, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It should probably be renamed to List of Pacific typhoons before XXXX or 1850-59 Pacific typhoon seasons. If other seasons in the same era have as much info as this one, a decadal article would probably be the way to go. Miss Madeline | Talk to Madeline 17:55, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
There's no obstacle to creating such an article, and I agree it could be good if there are decent sources. Another alternative yet is to create an 1853 section in List of Pacific hurricanes before 1900.
The way to contest the PROD, if anyone wants to, is simply to delete the template at the top of the article, and preferably fill in the con and conreason parameters in the Old Prod Full template at the top of this talk page. There's no problem with that, and I'd simply raise an AfD to ask the community to decide. It would be better to go down one of the other paths suggested, none of which need this article to be preserved. --Stfg (talk) 18:22, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
In fact, as there is significant discussion, AFD, drawing the community's attention, is better, so I have removed the PROD and created the AFD. The discussion page is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Early Pacific typhoon seasons. --Stfg (talk) 19:34, 30 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've found a cool source for typhoon activity from 1450 to 1949 which might be of some use here. Unfortunately I cannot read the language it is presented in. Supportstorm (talk) 16:05, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
