Shouldn't this list maybe include the beaches where the forces were landed (and perhaps sector too)? And there where other nationalities involded too, wheren't there (like Norwegians and Danes)?? Stalwart 20:03, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I will be adding a few units to this list when I have time. I will be using Joslen's and Victory in the West to do this. By the way, did the Czech Armoured Brigade arrive in time for Normandy? I don't think so and may remove it unless someone objects.--Caranorn 16:06, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I can now confirm, the Czech Brigade arrived between August 25 and September 1, so too late for the campaign. So I will eventually delete it.--Caranorn 16:50, 28 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Joslen's

[edit]

I added Joslen's to the references. I've noticed some discrepancies between the all ready listed arrival times of some units and those given in Joslen's, which is based on official British records. I haven't changed any of the old data yet, but propose to review all the British arrival dates and where necessary pick the one given by Joslen, which I presume to be the arrival date of the Divisional or Brigade headquarters. I assume some of the currently conflicting dates are based on arrival of units attached to said Headquarters, these I feel should be listed under the individual battalions (I don't have those dates, or at least not in a single source) instead.--Caranorn 16:28, 24 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Queries

[edit]

To whoever made the effort to rationalise this series of articles:

  1. where's the naval order of battle & description of the naval issues that was originally in Operation Neptune?
  2. several links are circular.

Proposed Merge

[edit]

Merging the U.S. Divisions Active in the Normandy Campaign list into this page makes sense. The tables on this page provide more details than the US Division page. The merger would also facilitate including major non-divisional units where appropriate. Acwbuff276 (talk) 17:30, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I too do not see a problem with merging, but it should be backed up with reliable sources.--RightCowLeftCoast (talk) 01:59, 9 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Remove the British Army Details to Divisional Articles

[edit]

To keep this article in parallel internally, the details in the tables of the British Army units need to be removed to individual divisional articles like with the U.S. divisional listing. Arguments for or against? The other option is to pull the U.S. divisional details into this article.--Bemcfarland (talk) 14:39, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Title/categorization

[edit]

I found the title very misleading. I fully intended to edit the title but could not figure out how. It should simply say "List of Allied Divisions...." etc. There were hundreds of small unattached brigade, battalion, and even company sized units at d-day. Based on the title/search results, it suggests that those smaller units would be mentioned on this page. People looking for such a page are bound to be disappointed. 2600:8800:116:BC00:9D9F:8EE5:3402:71ED (talk) 03:10, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
