What goes on this page?

[edit]

So.. is this page just for general works or should I move over more titles from my list? Shiroi Hane 21:03, 10 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you have books on specific titles, I think it would be fine to list them. If there get to be a bunch for one show or topic, we can separate them into a specific section. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 03:53, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done (better late than never). Shiroi Hane 15:22, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know that it's necessarily late, though, since this list is changing regularly as people get more books (or find the list and list more). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 16:28, 10 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Subject archive

[edit]

As with the magazines, I've started a subject archive. You can see the first page here. We should try to keep it to about 5-10 titles per archive page so they don't get too large. I'm planning on being more specific for each topic on that page (which shows are referenced, what kinds of resources are in the article, etc. Any suggestions for improvements are welcome. I think this will make this list of books much more useful. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 05:15, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Or maybe just one title per page? It might be easier. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:22, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cited several times as an author in several academic circles. Has a PDF you can refer to/DL and has mentions of many anime in it and additional references. Plus she's Japanese, which must have a little weight.--Hitsuji Kinno (talk) 20:27, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Need a reference assist, and the book's not mentioned so asking here

[edit]

Could someone who has a copy of Manga: The Complete Guide in hand look up the page number of the entry on Yotsuba&!? I forgot to write that down when I used it as a reference. —Quasirandom (talk) 14:40, 6 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm...one of the few I don't have. Maybe I'll pick up a copy just so someone has it... ^_^ ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 02:24, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Its on my buy list, but probably won't get it for awhile yet. :P -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 03:02, 7 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Right ho. (My local library seems to have lost track of its copy -- not yet clear whether it's out or lost.) —Quasirandom (talk) 18:10, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll be ordering it tonight, but not sure when it will arrive. If no one else answers before I get it, though, will let you know the answer when I have :) -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 18:39, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thankee. I'll continue pursuing my library's copy. —Quasirandom (talk) 23:04, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Google Books

[edit]

I've come across a few pdf files on google books for stuff we have listed here. They are fully searchable (for example searching in google books for people will return the page they are on as well as load the pdf to the correct page), and due to the way google books is set up all the info you'd need in a citation template is available in just one click. However can we use them here? I've no idea if the publishers have signed off on their useage, or if google is using some form of fair use policy. Oh wait, it says "pages displayed by permission".

A good example of a title available is Anime Explosion. Dandy Sephy (talk) 09:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Technical note: those aren't PDFs, and they can't be saved, copied, etc. :) That aside, Google Books can be used as a convenience link as part of the book citation, but of course the actual citation should be for the book itself. Also, most books on Google Books are incomplete and it seems to lock you out of viewing any pages after some arbitrary limit that I haven't figured out. -- AnmaFinotera (talk · contribs) 12:53, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm good point, they look and feel like pdf's, which is what I based that on :p Regarding citation, thats what I meant by the info only being a click away. The about page has the book title, publisher, isbn, author etc. I was thinking more about linking to them on this page, where applicable rather then linking to them in articles Dandy Sephy (talk) 13:00, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Cite the book using {{cite book}}, and place the link and information for the Google Books entry in the URL and related fields. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:09, 4 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
