The 1996 season was Rosenborg's 18th consecutive year in Tippeligaen, their 33rd season in the top flight of Norwegian football and 17th season with Nils Arne Eggen as manager. They participated in Tippeligaen, the Cup and the 1996–97 UEFA Champions League, entering at the qualifying round stage.[1]
