translation

[editar]

Hello, I am interested in translating from EN to ES. Regarding "integrating" the translated material I don't know what you mean with this. Could you explain it to me in my talk page? --sbassi Comunicate que no muerdo 14:10 26 jun 2012 (UTC)[responder]

Yes, I could help with that. --sbassi Comunicate que no muerdo 15:40 26 jun 2012 (UTC)[responder]

Discusión:Enfermedad por el virus del Ébola

[editar]

No sé si debo escribir aqui en inglés o en español. De momento lo hago en español. En primer lugar quiero expresar mi apoyo por la muy buena aportación de la traducción. Aunque creo que se puede mejorar porque ya hay páginas existentes en wiki es con todos los enlaces rojos que se mencionan en el texto propuesto. Por otra parte, no queda claro dónde poner ese texto, cómo integrarlo en la página existente. No soy médico. Saludos cordiales--Basquetteur (discusión) 06:29 21 oct 2014 (UTC)[responder]

Basically the process is I improve the article in English. I hand the article over to a team of translators and they than hand it back to me translated into Spanish.
We are doing both full articles and short articles
What we need from those on Spanish Wikipedia is guidance. We need to know which if any of these articles we should translate and than we need help adding the translations.
The overview here [1] is translated from the English lead of the corresponding article. I speak only very little Spanish.
Basically Usuario:sbassi and Usuario:Basquetteur wondering if you could help us combine this with the content already in the lead of this article Enfermedad por el virus del Ébola Doc James (talk · contribs · email) (please reply on my talk page) 08:12 21 oct 2014 (UTC)[responder]

Usuario:Tarawa1943 this one was an update to match the new English version.
You can see the English version here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Infobox_medical_condition_(new)
Was being discussed at Wikiproyecto_Discusión:Medicina#New_infobox_disease
And with this change the data in that infobox no longer works.[2] Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 21:44 31 may 2018 (UTC)[responder]

Re: Tool for converting reference parameters

[editar]

If you use the wiki translator: it may help you. I'll help you with the article on ácaros so you can see the format. In general, if you use a reference, you don't need to copy it in its entirety into the next sentence; you should only use <ref name="anyname"/>. Sorry about my english, I prefer to show you the procedure in the article.Laura Fiorucci (discusión) 02:32 30 dic 2022 (UTC)[responder]

Usuaria:Laura Fiorucci Thank you. The problem is that their are issues with the wiki translator and we have been working to have them fix this for many many years.[3][4] Basically the tool is dropping references. So to prevent this we expand the references and than have another tool come along and shorten them. This is the shortening tool we build.[5] Will add a converting tool for parameters if one does not already exist. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:47 30 dic 2022 (UTC)[responder]

Hi Doc James:

Thank you for the invitation to rejoin the Healthcare Translation Task Force. See you there. We have met personally, I hope you remember me. I must ask you to check your contributions when you try to fix references because this is not a correction. If you notice what you left is a template format in English that is unreadable in Spanish. Thank you very much for your work.--Jalu (discusión) 14:36 7 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]

Thanks for noticing this Usuario:Jaluj. Appears the reference fixing tool needs updating to handle this situation on ES WP. Will get it fixed. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 15:12 7 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]
Usuario:Jaluj have tried to fix. Also added the translation template in an external links section. That template is in need of updating as content is now CC BY SA 4.0. Let me know if this works. Hi Doc!

Thank you for te invitation! I've been working a bit with the translator, and the truth is that I still don't understand it very well :') but hey, I do what I can. By the way, I still can't find the "fix" button to fix the references, so I've been doing it the old way: with pick and shovel. Another thing, I don't understand when the list that I have "in process" becomes "complete", because for example I already translated and added the interlanguage links for Tardive dyskinesia es:Discinesia tardía and es:DaxibotulinumtoxinA and they are not counted as "complete", I suppose it will take a while until that the system recognizes them? Well, whatever, it's a great pleasure to communicate with you, I hope to see you here and there more often, a big hug and we'll stay in touch.

--Esteban じゅうさん土さん の 告白 ! :) 22:18 8 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]

Usuario:J3D3 You can also use this link [6]. Yes it can take a bit for them to appear as "complete". Thanks for joining this effort :-) Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:31 8 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]

References's format

[editar]

Hi doc! actually the problem is that the user who was patrolling "it's a little short of understanding". The problem with this guy is that he controls the articles with the visual editor, and doesn't read the code. As I edit the code, I like to put all the references at the end in the references section, into the {reflist}, because that makes the code more readable, but the visual editor doesn't recognize them, so for him "the citation format is wrong"

In any case, if you are willing and if you can, in Spanish the dates are written in the format "DAY de MONTH de YEAR" all lower case, or in short format as "dd-mm-yy" all with numbers.

thus, July 25, 1975 should be translated as 25 de julio de 1975

and

05-13-75 as 13-05-75

If the date only has month and year, the preposition "de" at the beginning is omitted

eg. July 1975 as "julio de 1975" not as "de julio de 1975"

In the same way, if the date only contemplates the year, the initial "de" should be omitted

Any questions you have, please ask me--Esteban じゅうさん土さん の 告白 ! :) 02:21 17 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]

Thanks for those extra details. While get the date translation built as you suggested. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 02:26 17 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]
Hello again. Here my friend Sanador2.0 (disc. · contr. · bloq.) clarifies that the cite templates already recognize dates in the "yyyy-mm-dd format". A date entered as 2016-12-08 is displayed as "8 de diciembre de 2016". --Esteban じゅうさん土さん の 告白 ! :) 18:43 17 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]
Perfect thanks. We can put it in either format as the communities wishes. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 04:09 18 ago 2023 (UTC)[responder]

Re:

Hi James, how are you? I hope you remember me. When a project decides to create articles on Wikipedia, it is important to first take the time to understand the policies, rules, and conventions of that Wikipedia. I see that several pages created with your project have already been deleted here. It is a pity. The Spanish Wikipedia does not work exactly the same way as the English Wikipedia, and this can cause difficulties with editors who do not know our project, do not know how to edit here, or whose native language is not Spanish. You cannot directly translate new articles without adhering to our conventions and rules. It would be much more productive if the people translating into Spanish were users who already edit on the Spanish Wikipedia and are well-versed in the rules, to avoid this type of inconvenience and deletion. I hope you understand and that we can avoid future conflicts since the project you are leading seems very important to me. Thank you very much for your work and thank you for your understanding.--Jalu (discusión) 17:41 13 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]

Thanks for the reply Jalu. Yes I understand each WP is different. Trying to figure out why that article was deleted so I can explain it to the volunteer. Can you explain it for me? Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 00:11 14 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]

Hi James. Translating from a user sandbox means that the article has not been verified, supervised, or approved by the English Wikipedia community. If the article is not in the main namespace, it has not yet met the minimum requirements set by English Wikipedia, which is a bad sign for us. Any editor can create whatever he wants in his or her sanbox, but that does not mean Wikipedia considers it encyclopedic. The article on English Wikipedia, "en:Eustachian tube dysfunction," is encyclopedic and well-done, with 13 references, and it doesn't have the spelling errors found in the version published in Spanish. However, the Spanish version was not a translation of this English article. Furthermore, that editor in English did not create the article; he copied it from another wiki. When that editor's sandbox is deleted, there will be no record that the article was translated from MDWiki.

Each Wikipedia develops its policies in its own way, so meeting or not meeting the requirements of English Wikipedia does not necessarily mean it meets or does not meet those of Spanish Wikipedia. From my perspective, the article is of very low quality and has several problems. It has only three sources, all in English, which would not be an issue if there were no Spanish sources, but we have, a lot. I'm not saying that English references cannot be used; they can be. It's just one more point to consider and we prioritize Spanish references so our readers can access them. Additionally, it has many external links within the body of the article, directing readers to external sites, which we do not accept and in such an absurd way that in a single sentence, it links to the same external page three times:

Se divide en tres tipos: obstructiva, si la trompa no está abierta; baroinducida, que ocurre con cambios de presión; y patulosa, si la trompa no cierra correctamente.

It also has spelling errors, especially the use of lowercase letters at the beginning of each sentence in the infobox. It is a very poor article. Add to that the fact that he categorized it with a category that doesn't exist in Spanish Wikipedia, which shows that the translator didn't even take a minute to read how his publication turned out. That becomes more than clear when you see that the references appeared as Error en la cita: Etiqueta ref no válida; el nombre «Sch2015» está definido varias veces con contenidos diferentes. I will move it to the editor's user sandbox, awaiting improvement before it can be published in the main space. Please explain to him to improve it, expand it, try to add some references from reliable Spanish sources, improve the spelling, remove the links to external sites, and comply with our style manual. I hope this time I have been more specific, and keep in mind that you have my help whenever you need it because I find it a very interesting project. Thank you for all your effort.--Jalu (discusión) 18:58 15 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]

Usuario:Jaluj Wonderful thank you for those details. We will work on it further. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 22:45 15 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]
Hi James, It is not allowed to categorize sandboxes to make them appear in the main space as if they were Wikipedia articles, which is why I removed those categories. Please remove that explanatory video in English, this is the Wikipedia in Spanish. I also moved this article to the sandbox. As soon as it was published it in the main space, they put a template on it saying that it doesn't have a clear context and another one saying that it lacks references and has references that don't work. --Jalu (discusión) 13:31 17 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]
Usuario:Jaluj Sure removed the video. With respect to [7] all the references are functional though one uses an archival reference. It is an approved medication by both the European Union and the United States 4 years ago for acute hepatic porphyria. Doc James (talk · contribs · email) 14:10 17 jul 2024 (UTC)[responder]
