English: Whaling in the Faroe IslandsNorthern bottlenose whales are sometimes stranded in places where there is an isthmus, like in the villages, especially in the villages of Hvalba and Sandvík on Suðuroy in the Faroe Islands. The whales are then used for human consumption for the local villagers. It is believed, that the whale by mistake swims to near land and because there is no high mountain where the isthmus is, it swims to near to the beach and can't get away again.
