Death date of Francis Bacon

[edit]

I notice you have been editing a number of death dates, and in particular, you changed the death date of Francis Bacon (Q37388) from Julian to Gregorian. In England at the time Francis Bacon died, the Julian calendar was in force (although the Gregorian calendar was in force in Catholic countries). Most sources state dates in England in this period in the Julian calendar. I have verified this is the practice of Encyclopedia Britannica, on of the sources cited for Bacon's death date, by comparing Britannica's dates for well known people such as Isaac Newton with sources which clearly state whether the date in question is Julian or Gregorian. I have reverted your change. Jc3s5h (talk) 19:59, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable calendar change

[edit]

Please justify this edit to Shakespeare (which I have reverted). If questionable edits without justification continue administrator intervention will be sought. Jc3s5h (talk) 13:25, 5 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
