Theme of manhood- This balance shows Shakespeare's constant reminder that men need to show strength. Lady Macbeth challenges Macbeth when he is afraid to kill Duncan by questioning his manhood. Macbeth also questions the murderers’ manhood in order to manipulate them. However, women like Lady Macbeth and the fairies try to balance the scale. They provoke the violence brought about by the men.
