p'tit nouveau

Salut Guillom...

Guillom 15:35, 12 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Translation combination boxes

The following text was copied from Meta:Babel#Translation_combination_boxes. As an active translator, it may be of any interest to you:

Hi, Sabine worked on new boxes for translators. They aim at giving information about translation combination: say, I can translate from English to French, from Italian to Spanish, and so on. It would help us to know who can translate what, in what, to streamline the translation process. The boxes do not provide information about your level (wether you are a professional translator or not, for example); you may write something about this point in your user page (very useful as well). A few boxes are available, be bold and create those you need :) Be aware we use ISO 639-3 codes for languages (fra and not fr, eng and not en, ...).

Please see "Translator in the following language combinations" and pick up templates for your user page!
This message was pasted on several User talk pages of active translators.

Thank you :)

Election notice translation

Pardon in anglais, mais ma franc, ais est formidable ...

Thank you, Guillom, for your translation of the Election notice! I expect you informed already the page to your community, Francophone projects.

I hope your work encourage many Fr editors to be involved. Again, thank you! --Aphaia 09:33, 15 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Aphaia,
I have already informed the Wikipedia community, and now that I'm back from (too short) holidays, I'm going to check the other French-language projects are informed. I will also tell the frwp community again about the election, so as to have many voters involved. Btw, I noticed some candidates' presentations aren't available in French, so I'll try to translate them or find some people to do it.
Cheers! Guillom 08:03, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Multilingualisation de l'élection

J'ai créé Election officials 2006/Fr et Election translations 2006/Fr et une série de modèles multilingues pour la liste des candidats et des traducteurs (voir Template:Election translators ML#About this template et Template:Election translations 2006/Candidates#About this template.) dans la perspective de proposer tous les éléments d'interface de l'élection de façon multilingue. Arno Lagrange  10:45, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Salut. Guillom 10:48, 16 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

A late candidate

Salut there Guillom, there is a late candidate for board elections. As you worked and helped a lot translating other candidates presentations, I though it might be a good idea to inform you, because time is short. Merci in advance. Commentaires inutiles

Translation request

Hello, Guillom, I noticed your name on the list of available translators for the Board of Trustees elections for French and English. The Wikipedia Signpost is looking for someone to help us talk with Hadraj, a French candidate not proficient in English. We've been asking each of the candidates some "interview" questions, so would appreciate someone to translate the questions, and then translate his replies back to English. There's only a few questions, and the replies to each one should be brief. Because of publication deadlines, this whole process needs to be completed quickly (i.e. within the next week), so if you or another translator with some free time could help us out, that would be great. Just let me know as soon as possible, and don't hesitate to ask me if you have any questions. Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 01:03, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I will do my best to translate it or to find someone to do it. guillom 08:04, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Charles Matthews

Korg + + 17:18, 28 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot. Would you mind translating the following message and statement, emphasizing that I need it as soon as possible? It would probably be easier if he replies directly to you, and you translate it back to English and leave me a message. Again, this needs to be done as soon as possible - we're about to publish, and the sooner we get it in, even if it's after the issue is published, the better. Thanks! re : Wikiversité

Bonjour Guillom,

Cordialement, JmG 08:30, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

fr.wikiversity.org

N'hésite pas à me contacter. Sainte-Rose 12:22, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

A bientot. Sainte-Rose 13:53, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Beta Wikiversity

Hello Guillom. I have an account at beta until the beggining, and I hope collaborate at portuguese version. I am just waiting an aproval from 555 to start to translade pages from Wikiversidade. Merci, Slade pt.wp 03:09, 10 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

A belated thanks ..

.. for helping to translate my Board election statement. The amount of multilingual activity in Wikimedia never ceases to amaze me, and I think we can do much more to support translation efforts throughout the Foundation. For example, on the technical level, I believe in interfacing with computer-aided translation tools such as the open source utility Omega-T (to make it easier to translate only the changes in the new version of a document), and to build multilingual discussion support into MediaWiki. (I've authored the specifications for LiquidThreads, which is being implemented as a Summer of Code project by David McCabe, and the Multilingual MediaWiki specs, which are going to be coded by Charles Pritchard with support from the University of Bamberg and Wikia.) It would also be neat to support open source machine translation efforts like Apertium, and to integrate those with MediaWiki.

I also believe that the next-generation dictionary, WiktionaryZ, will help with internationalization efforts. On the social level, we need to build organizational structures which take multilinguality into account, i.e. support local chapters, and bring translators into the Foundation-level processes. One final idea I have is to build a translation assignment management system, so we can easily manage and prioritize the translation tasks that need to be done, and notify translators when a document is ready for translation. If you have other ideas for improving and supporting multilinguality in our projects, please let me know at User talk:Eloquence. Again, merci for your translation, and please keep up the great work!--Eloquence 21:24, 13 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Your revert

Guillom, I don't quite understand your revert. Do you participate in the New Languages Subcommittee? Did you at least glance across the request and discussion below the totals line, anyway?

Talk of "consensus" in context of this particular request especially doesn't make sense, when opposers are "allowed" to talk nonsense and hate-talk, unhindered. You'd want to look for consensus in our incubator test-set -- 2000+ articles created (not copied) in just two months.

I understand there's a new procedure of requests approval now. Month ago I was told our request is as good as approved. However, nothing happened. So I thought some moves should be made according to the old procedure.

Guillom, it is just possible that my impressions are unbased, but the situation around the Belarusian language in Wikipedia begins to look quite strange and, frankly, sort of discriminating to me.

On one hand, nobody intervenes with the situation in the existing "alternative version of Belarusian language" WP. Strange but would be okay, though, if all versions of Belarusian language would got the even-handed treatment. And I don't even want to start about the weird preference the blogs-dialect gets over the language actually taught in schools. Is it possible the WP in normative version of Belarusian language is, simply and effectively, being blocked by all sorts of tricks, under the benignly blind eye of powers-that-be? What does all that mean? Yury Tarasievich 09:00, 4 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ego and his own

I understand why you unblocked Ego and it's OK for me. However, I am very sceptical about him/her. User is not active Wikipedian even his account on meta is not sockpuppet, because contributing to Meta doesn't make user a Wikipedian (up to this moment, there is no any user "Ego and his own" on English, Serbian, Croatian or Serbi-Croatian Wikipedias nor user wanted to say what is his/her username on other Wikipedias). His/her knowledge of English is good enough to contribute on English Wikipedia. I think that condition listed at the end of the page Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Montenegrin (section "Native speakers", at the bottom of the page) are very clear, including my further explanations. Also, five active Wikipedians and native speakers are reasonable condition for preventing of making small and POV Wikipedia which language differs from Serbian in three words as well as it is the only way to pass present negative voting for opening Montenegrin Wikipedia. Also, look at the conversation between me and Ego inside of that section. Whatever... Tell me if you need explanation in more detail. --Millosh 15:15, 13 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Probleme 1 (moins important): Millosh a did m'avoir bloque pour 1 jour.

Oppose on election

Hi Guillom: I don't like controverse sentences about some Wikimedia projects (especially on chat - #wikimedia -). A steward IMHO "works" with passion and not with several critics (in Italian we call them as "fuffa"). I hope that I'm wrong. However, good luck for the election. Excuse for my English. Bye! --Leoman3000 22:23, 1 December 2006 (UTC) and Tooby 22:26, 1 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you're talking about the time I said I didn't like the it:wikipedia logo for Halloween, I deeply, humbly and sincerely apologize. I have never meant to hurt anyone's feelings. I was just giving my opinion ; sometimes the IRC chat makes words harder than what people think and would say on wiki. Please believe me when I say I respect people from Italian projects as much as from all projects. Again, sorry if you felt hurt. guillom 17:59, 2 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pourquoi?

Pourquoi tu m'as pas laisse ma page avec delete all wiki ?

thanks {{delete|reason}} ok ;) --User:Dario vet/Sign 18:16, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

hey...

Salut Guillaume,
évidemment, tu peux me répondre non !

Speedy deletion of pages moved to MediaWiki.org

Hello. I see you have imported many pages from meta to mediawiki.org and you have tagged these pages for speedy deletion on meta. For the moment I haven't deleted them because they don't meet meta SD criteria. I think it would be better to create a common RfD for all these pages. guillom 10:30, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Guillom - I'm not all that fussed about what happens with those pages - I was just flagging them as unneeded, and there is no direct correlation to them on MW.org so a soft-redirect is not suitable. Please feel free to put them through whatever process you like. --HappyDog 16:37, 19 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

Possible abuse by admin

Hi, i would like to ask to review the actions and contributions of user:Jayjg he frequently makes controversial edits which is his right but then deals with resulting edit wars in a disruptive and abusive manner. If his controversial edits get reverted he will attempt to harass editors who reverting. He treats his admin priviliges as if they meant he is above every and any rule or policy. He will deal with any opposing POV with brute force, auto reverting, blocking instead of discussion. He violates the following guide on adminship:

"Adminship is not diplomatic immunity Every administrator must keep in mind that admins are servants of Wikipedia as a whole. This means that all policies apply to admins just as they do to any user. Admins can be blocked, stripped of admin powers, or banned. Admins must follow all Wikipedia policies, such as the three-revert rule, and uphold consensus and a neutral point of view." I ask you to keep a close eye on him and prevent any future abuse and edit warring. Especially abusive edit warring using administrative tools provided to him for fighting vandals, not POV battles.

Merci

Leag 09:47, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

My RfA

Hello Guillom. Thanks for voting in my request; I don't really want to pressure you to changing your mind, but way less than half of my edits are welcoming users. 102 out of 234 for a start is quite a bit less than half, and many of those are warning users with {{subst:test}} ([3], [4], [5], [6] are just some.) In this way, I've tagged many articles to be deleted (Abc, Bill Daniel (director, photographer), ARTICLE tag, Disaster Recovery Plan, Erik Fitzpatrick, Je teste, and images File:FigHida01.jpg, File:Immagine 1460.jpg, File:Immagine 1461.jpg are some I have tagged). This probably counts for the lowish edit count. I hope you don't mind me leaving you this message, and I hope you will reconsider your vote. Thank you. --Majorly 15:09, 10 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

collected diffs

Hi Guillom, as promised, here are my collected evidence, I also had a long talk with Effeietsanders, you can contact him if you want to know anything about the user's ar.wiki situation.

  • user was banned indef on ar.wiki for trolling, as soon as he was, he moved all his stuff to meta, then he posted to 5 admin pages about his ban, here (calling us fools), here, here ,here and here ,when some admins ignored him he added wiki break notice to their pages here and here (If they didnt answer me they must be on wikibreak).
  • User is infatuated with sockpuppets, he keeps long lists of supposed sockpuppets, and moved off his unsubstantiated list of people he keeps tabs on here. He also accused ar.wiki users on meta as he no longer can do that on ar.wiki here and here.
if what you're saying is good, i should be banned here. i think Guillom is interested in knowing the reason of my ban, i.e., what happened in ar wi to justify it. what policy other than ignore all rules? --Azdiyy 22:56, 20 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hmpfh

Hi Guillom,

I just need to make something clear about the matter.

I am not complaining about anything. I don't need to. What you have done does not affect me in any way. What i reminded you about was a mistake and i brought it to your attention so that it would not happen again and upset anyone in the future.

As long as the policies are clear (10 support votes and the monitoring of the bot for a limited period by a bureaucrat for a non-interwiki bot and strictly %75 for a RFA to succeed), it does not matter what the votes are (which is not the best way for a wiki to function, but it is the current way).

And about the bureaucratship, i told you what i think about the elections. It does not mean that i am deciding who will get elected and when. Everyone is free to self nom any time. You clearly misunderstood what i told you about this detail.

The moment that you understand that the first situation did not involve a decision, but the second one did (which should have complied with the policy), you will see that i'm right.

  1. débloquer les comptes nap:Special:Contributions/Zyxwvut-Bot et nap:Special:Contributions/Hégésippe (en indiquant par exemple : « avant renommage en User:Usurpated account », pour que ce marquage ne reste pas comme une sorte de « marque d'infâmie ») ;
  2. supprimer les pages nap:Utente:Zyxwvut-Bot, nap:Discussioni utente:Zyxwvut-Bot, nap:Utente:Hégésippe, nap:Discussioni utente:Hégésippe ;
  3. renommer les deux comptes usurpés puis les bloquer avec le nouveau nom ;
  4. me prévenir (sans pour autant t'embêter à recréer les comptes pour moi, tu as déjà assez de boulot comme cela).

Thank you for the reply! I've read over your entire presentation, cover-to-cover, and seem to have more questions now then I have answers. You talk about requiring each project to have a color theme, what color would wikibooks use? I don't want to start making a logo now, only to find out later that the foundation has changed our color palette. That same thing is what stopped the logo selection process last time. Also, you are encouraging the logos to be unique and distinct? Should there be no unifying theme with the rest of the foundation? Should the Wikibooks logo vote wait for your report to go to the board before we start making decisions? I'll post a little status update on the logo discussion page about this, and I'll be waiting for your reply. --Whiteknight (meta) (Books) 16:34, 21 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Checkuser verification

Checkuser verification

Dear Sir,

I'm asking help to some stewards because is urgent.

A group of users (friends) of Portuguese Wikipédia bring more illiberal policies regarding an non free wikipédia without a preoccupation with a environmental and social education.

This group of users (always the same) and some administrators propose and vote systematically to erase some pages with a total absence of knowledge about the subject, some of the articles with a high importance to the community. They have a chain of contacts to promote their vote and their contacts (friends) vote without common sense, reasoning, good judgment, brains or sagacity; They vote against the person and not against the article.

Less obvious for know, but perhaps as consequential over the long term, is a less participation of some users who TRY CONTRIBUTE to this projects with articles.

Because of this behavior from this group, I decide do not agree with their conduct and I write my point of view in there discussion pages (with total education) I have been blocked for suspicion of being a sock puppet after a checkuser. I know I am not a sockpuppet, so is impossible the checkuser be positive.

A several of times I and other users asked for a checkuser to my account, always reject for the “group of users”. But know, the “group of users” decide make the “checkuser”, it is strange and uncommon. Principally after reject my checkuser proposal to a ckecuser, They the ask a “checkuser” (2 days after) - strange? They admit in their discussion pages, they make a checkuser and the checkuser was negative… Know the new check user is positive. Is impossible. I know that.

All I ask to wikimédia foundation is that an administrator check the merits of the block. Please, verify the checkuser. Send me the results by email, because is impossible this result.

I think these groups (with administrators) are trying making a fraud to eliminate my participation. Put yourself in my shoes and imagine the frustration.

Note that all what you did -- violating any others freedom of speech and insulting unnecessary to keep your own right -- was what Aphaia did at Japanese Wikipedia and caused so many troubles. I, as a Japanese, feel quit disappointment to know such a careless people like you are a steward of meta.--Kareha 15:24, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well I believe what happened in Aphaia's is regretful because wikimedia has a strong policy against Canvassing and Personal Attacks and Aphaia's Elections became a battle-ground of just that and what Guillom said was taken out of context cause it wasn't meant as a racist remark but more of "out of anger" remark and since he has apologized about it above, I believe we should leave it at that ..--Cometstyles 16:56, 30 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

To whom may feel concerned

I have apologized right above, but it seems it is not clear enough, so here is another statement.

  • I was really shocked by comments from users from ja:wp against Aphaia.
  • I was really shocked that nobody dared at least ask them to stop personal attacks.
  • I voted to support Aphaia and expressed some concerns in my vote comment.
  • At that time I had not commented any of the "oppose" votes to avoid conflict.
  • Someone came to comment my vote, and that added to many unfair comments towards Aphaia made me temporarily upset.
  • I felt harassed by a group of ja:wp users and removed this comment using badly chosen words in the edit summary.
  • I deeply respect Japanese people as much as everybody else, allegations of racism are simply ridiculous.
  • I apologize once again for my badly chosen words.

I do honor you for your sincere apology about the words -- it's what I would like to have. To be fair, I must confess I also feel our manners in that vote were far from civil and your anger itself could be justified.--Kareha 14:57, 1 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi Guillom. I've created another version of that image, Image:OTRS Wikimedia 2.svg which has the white space removed and I was wondering if you wanted to use that as a replacement. Thanks, Mønobi 20:59, 9 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ah, okay. Wasn't aware of that visual guideline. Thanks, Mønobi 03:07, 18 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

About confirmation of Aphaia

Do you know there is canvassing against Aphaia going on at [10]? I think those who got involved with this canvassing should be banned. --Oblivion 07:47, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

OTRS

Salut Guillom,

In case you hadn't heard

Thought you might have a thought to share about this: Proposals for closing projects/Closure of Beta Wikiversity.

BTW, we burned the horns off the little goats today... pics coming to commons soon! --SB_Johnny|talk|books 18:16, 28 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
