Steward requests/Permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Tietew (talk | contribs) at 10:24, 8 December 2004 (→‎Removal of access: Request for removal of sysop access of ja:User:Yoshitaka Mieda and ja:User:Ojigiri in Japanese Wikipedia.). It may differ significantly from the current version.

This is a central page to request permissions for sysop status, bureaucrat status or bot status on one of the Wikimedia projects, where no local means exist to do so yet.

If your wiki has a request for adminship page and a bureaucrat (a bureaucrat is able to make people sysop on the local wiki), please use your local page. If not, use this page.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the IRC channels #mediawiki or #wikipedia on irc.freenode.net (users angela, anthere or engels).

Techniques to give status are described on m:stewards.

How to request status

When you make your request to be sysop, please follow the following steps

Step 1 : Have a valid local admin page.

  • if an admin page does not exist on your project, please create this page. Add on this page:
    • Basic explanations of what a sysop is and what a sysop can do
    • Add a list of admins and bureaucrats on your wiki,
    • Add your name among those requesting sysophood on the admin page
    • then link the local admin page to this page (Requests for permissions)
    • and the conditions needed to become a sysop and the discussions (approval or disapproval) about a new candidate (larger wikis only)

Step 2 : mention your language code, and your project

Step 3 : give your user name on the project.

These three steps are mandatory. No request will be fullfilled if this is not provided.

The stewards will probably add a message on your admin page to mention you were named sysop without vote. If you wish that this message is posted in local language, please translate it. Thanks for the stewards

Current requests for permissions

Please specify whether you are asking for adminship on Wikipedia, Wiktionary, Wikiquote, or Wikibooks. Please note that all adminships are subject to approval by the community. If you are granted adminship and a complaint is later filed against you, this may be revoked immediately pending a vote (like en:WP:RFA) to ensure the community on your wiki supports your request.
  • Hello. A couple of weeks ago when I was away from home I was made sysop on he.wikisource.org. I thank Looxix for his vote of confidence, but I do want to point out that I had nothing to do with this and didn't even know about it at the time! Because I am a bit worried that I won't have enough time to deal everything in the coming months, and most especially because I think there should be sysops who are better than I at dealing with technical coding and stuff, I would like to request the status for two additional people who have been making great contributions: hewikisource:משתמש:עלי and especially hewikisource:משתמש:Mad dr. Thanks! Dovi 00:21, 2 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • I would like to request sysop and bureaucrat status on iu:. Until now I had sort of assumed it was active, but it doesn't seem to have any users. My username there is ᐃᖁᐆᕐ.
    • Done. - Andre Engels 17:39, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)
      • Thank you!
      • I just checked Special:Makesysop; iu: doesn't recognize me as a bureaucrat. May this flag be set for me, please? --[[User:Eequor|ᓛᖁ♀]] 01:45, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Can someone make wikt:ka:User:SabineCretella moderator/sysop; at this moment Georgian has a starting wiktionary and there is no moderator/sysop yet. When someone is there to take over, Sabine will ask to be de-sysopped. Thanks, GerardM 08:32, 1 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • Hello, I am Lots. I request for sysopshop on ja.wikibooks. There are two temp sysops but they are inactive. My request was approved by the community (pro 3, contra 0) after one week discussion on RFA. thank you. --Lots(talk) 21:24, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Removal of access

Self-deadminship, or removal of bot flags from your bot can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first. To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.
  • Request for removal of sysop and bureaucrat access of Maradong after dicussion [1] and approval. The reasons stated were : lack of participation without explanation why he hasn't shown up for over a month, "refusal" to chek our grammar page on how to write in luxembourgish. (the same mistakes, over and over and over, even after corrections from our part). Maradong hasn't even replied to the removal of access. Thx. Briséis

I am David Shay, the Bureaucrat of the Hebrew Wikipedia, and I am asking for the removal of sysop access of SHIMONSHA, in the Hebrew Wikipedia. He was found adding articles which are copyrighted by other people, and agreed several times in the Hebrew Wikipedia to be removed from the list of sysops in the Hebrew Wikipedia. I have also started the process of voting (it is in English). As SHIMONSHA himself voted for his removal, I believe it is time for his removal. David Shay 23:18, 6 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Requests for Bot status

To register a bot, please mention its name and the local wiki on which it will work here.

Warning : for some big wikipedias, such as en:, you will need to specifically request an authorization over there. See en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for approval by a sysop and then ask for the bot flag here.

Bot policies: de en fr (about bots, and how to get status)

Note to stewards: Bot policy on Wiktionary (in particular en.wiktionary) is under discussion so bots should not be made without approval of the appropriate wiki. See Beer parlour.

  • I hereby humbly request bot status for HippieBot on the English Wiktionary. I am one of the ones holding the discussion on the Beer parlour and on HippieBot's pages. I am happy to await the outcome of those discussions before being granted bot status but thought I'd like to make my request official now that I have discovered the process. — Hippietrail 13:49, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • Is there any consensus on Wiktionary about this yet? Angela 03:16, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • I'd like to get the bot status for de:User:VBot in the German Wikipedia. Thanks in advance. - 195.93.60.136 19:46, 30 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • I've set up de:Benutzer:PnBot in the German Wikipedia for some tedious work to be done. Could you give this user the bot status, please? Thank you. --Patrice 02:14, 3 Dec 2004 (UTC)
  • I'd like to get the bot status for Rail Bot in the Russian Wikipedia. Thanks. Rail 12:21, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Current temporary sysops for emergency or technical purposes

  • myself on brwiki to see what have been deleted. -- Looxix 21:28, 13 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • User:Belgian man I would like a (temporary?) admin on the Nauruan Wikipedia, [2], because there is a little crisis (there are not many Nauruan words but lots of false words) and there is not an admin to delete the false redirect-pages. If there is a Nauruan user, he or she may be an admin.
    • Sysopped for 2 weeks assuming there are no objections. Angela 20:34, 25 Nov 2004 (UTC)
