Requests for global rename permissions
Global rename for Julius 12345
- Wiki: fi.wikipedia.org (list 'crats • bot policy[no automatic approval] • summary • 'crats rights)
- User: Julius 12345 (talk • edits • logs • UserRights • activity • CentralAuth • email • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 9 July 2023 10:56 UTC
Hey! I am Julius 12345 a Finnish Wikipedia user. I would like to have a global rename permission because I am active in Finnish Wikipedia and want to help new users. I am aware of the global rename policy. --Julius 12345 (talk) 10:45, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose @Julius 12345 thanks for volunteering! Global renamer permissions are usually granted to experienced users, e.g. local admins. You currently have < 400 edits globally, most of them done in the past month, which is far too low for me to support. Please gain more experience at fiwiki and probably come back at a later point. --Johannnes89 (talk) 11:40, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose per Johannnes89. —Yahya (talk • contribs.) 12:36, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose Thank you for your willingness. You have to gain more experience for this role. —MdsShakil (talk) 14:30, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose I would like to see either more crosswiki experience or advanced rights in a local project --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:12, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose please get more experience and contribute to your local wiki. Thank you for voulunteering! --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 08:20, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Neutral Hopefully some other time with more experience. --V0lkanic (talk) 08:24, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose Neriah - 💬 - 09:46, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose Per above. AlPaD (talk) 06:55, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose, Julius 12345 already asked for adminship, account creator and autoreviewed rights on the Finnish Wikipedia, and created a bot account as well to get a bot flag. Like I said there, edit Wiki(p/m)edia first, and don't ask for rights at the start. You don't have enough experience. Stryn (talk) 08:56, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose per above, concerns with experience. -FASTILY 08:56, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Oppose limited experience. --SHB2000 (talk | contribs) 01:50, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- You're not ready Julius; global renamer is a fairly advanced right and there is no evidence that you've demonstrated the experience required to be ready for this role (with your Finnish Wikipedia userpage demonstrating weakness in fundamental areas). Try again in some time, and don't apply for rights anywhere. Leaderboard (talk) 08:39, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Global rename for Blua lago

As a long-time editor and trusted user, I’d like to volunteer for the global rename permission; I sense that I could be of help in handling global rename requests, especially those on my local wiki’s rename page. As there is currently only one Hungarian-speaking global renamer, I believe the Hungarian community would greatly benefit from another helping hand. Initially, it was proposed by FoBe that I should take on the duties of GRN -- this was followed by a request for comment by him on our local village pump on Huwiki, where the community overwhelmingly supported the idea of me requesting the permission. Thank you for your consideration, and should you have any concerns or any relevant feedback, please feel free to let me know. --Blua lago (talk) 09:19, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Support Trusted, sysop on huwiki and there's a need for another Hungarian-speaking global renamer. Thank you for volunteering! --Ferien (talk) 09:33, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Support I have been working alongside Blua lago for quite a while now. During this time, I have found that he approaches community issues in a highly constructive manner, takes his rôle as an administrator seriously, and approaches sensitive issues with the appropriate level of circumspection. He possesses good communication skills both in English and in Hungarian. I think that he would make a fine addition to the global renamer team. – FoBe (talk) 09:59, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Global rename for TheAafi
- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (list 'crats • bot policy • summary • 'crats rights)
- User: TheAafi (talk • edits • logs • UserRights • activity • CentralAuth • email • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 9 July 2023 13:44 UTC
Hello, I am an eliminator on ur-wiki and a global permissions VRT agent. I am a translation administrator on several wikis including here. On ur-wiki, I can delete/undelete, block/unblock users etc. apart from having another advanced permissions such as editing main page, editing cascade-protected pages. The only global renamer from ur-wiki has not edited since more than four months and has performed last rename on 6 November 2022. I have been through the policy pages and assure that, if I am granted this flag, I won't do any harm. Best regards, ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:44, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- I have had made a request here several months ago, and withdrawn that due few of my own mistakes. This has been a good lesson, and I am still open to learning more. Let me know if you have any questions. ─ The Aafī (talk) 13:47, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Question: What has changed since your first request, and what do you think you learned from there? —MdsShakil (talk) 14:26, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
Support The last request failed for some pretty poor reasons, the main one being that TheAafi isn't an admin, but has access to pretty much all admin tools apart from ones that would be used pretty infrequently anyway. Now there's even more of a need for an urwiki renamer, hopefully the community recognise that global renamer shouldn't be a box-ticking exercise, but rather a review of the candidate's need and related experience, which TheAafi clearly has. --Ferien (talk) 14:33, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- I've also talked more about urwiki's eliminator rights in two previous requests where eliminators were applying for the role: TheAafi's first request and Ulubatli Hasan's request. Essentially, all the admin tasks related to renaming (e.g. blocking and unblocking) are already included in eliminator. --Ferien (talk) 14:39, 25 June 2023 (UTC)
- @MdsShakil, apart from what @Ferien has stated above, I have of course learned about the blatant error that I did here. I have also learned that file renaming is different from renaming users and have had this expressed on a number of GR requests here. What has changed since then also includes my work on the Urdu Wikipedia, I am extensively involved in keeping ur-wiki's main-page updated with the News section, a place where unlikely any admins have helped since 11 September 2022. I have alone helped this section to get better and introduced the concept of nominations in this. Having said this, I believe, I could be someone who can fill a lot of gap! ─ The Aafī (talk) 15:21, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Requests for global rollback permissions
Global rollback for EstrellaSuecia
- Global user: EstrellaSuecia (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
- Not ending before 1 July 2023 08:59 UTC
Whenever I see spam or suspected xwiki vandalism or abuse on my home wiki, I always go on CA or GUC to revert it, then report users to SRG and links to the global blacklist. Am not part of small wiki monitoring team or anything but I still think the tool would be useful for me so I'd like to try it. I've been a sysop at my home wiki for three years almost, and a patroller here at Meta for some time. EstrellaSuecia (talk) 08:59, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Weak oppose You’re trusted, but Global Rollback is for “users who are demonstrably active in cross-wiki counter-vandalism or anti-spam activities”. - @EstrellaSuecia:, regarding this: "I still think the tool would be useful for me" - personally, I've found Twinkle to be enough for the odd cross-wiki vandalism I need to revert. You haven't quite explained why you need it (common reasons include being hit by a rate limit or Twinkle's functionality being insufficient for whatever reason). Can you elaborate on that? Leaderboard (talk) 19:52, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Leaderboard I made the decision to try to get these rights when I tried to revert Piermark but on two different wikis it would not let me just undo, the abuse filters said I removed too much text and tagged it as vandalism. I assumed with rollback I would not run into that. Also Twinkle does not seem to work for me whenever I click diff from GUC, but that might be a me issue that some setting would fix. EstrellaSuecia (talk) 20:42, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
- OK indeed rollback should exempt you from abuse filter issues - that's enough for a support from me. Leaderboard (talk) 08:36, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Global rollback for XenonX3

- Not ending before 11 July 2023 12:41 UTC
Hi, I'd like to request global rollback to fight the constant crosswiki spam that is flooding the projects. I've been a sysop on dewiki since 2010 (and was a crat and oversighter) and a member of the VRT. Most of the times I find spammers on dewiki and then I revert their edits crosswiki and report them on Steward requests/Global. The reverting part would be way easier with rollback rights. Thanks in advance, XenonX3 (talk) 12:41, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Weak oppose sorry, you’re trusted, but your recent crossactivity seems very low to me and the last edit in a small SWMT project was before months. --TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 12:44, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
Weak support per global rollback policy users must be „demonstrably active in cross-wiki counter-vandalism or anti-spam activities“ and „make heavy use of revert on many wikis“ for consideration. While TenWhile6 is right, that the xwiki activity is on the low side compared to what is usually expected for global rollback permissions, XenonX3 is indeed active in fighting xwiki spam originating from dewiki. As a highly trusted dewiki functionary with rollback rights at Commons & dewiki I trust him with GR rights as well. @XenonX3: you might want to try TwinkleGlobal for xwiki reverts & reporting spammers to SRG. --Johannnes89 (talk) 13:05, 6 July 2023 (UTC)

- No @TenWhile6:, the 2 cases are different and your point is not systematic. Svartava was not refused, Svartava withdrew his application to make the right application:
- Svartava is involved in the fight against IW vandalism and wanted to receive CAPTCHA exemption for "undo quietly", while Svartava already had a good IW matrix.
- Civvì has no history of fighting IW vandalism and is asking for a right to get an associated right. It's like someone asking to be sysop to be able to rollback, it doesn't make sense.
- It is for the same past of the candidate that I do not oppose. Cordially. ―Eihel (talk) 10:58, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Eihel Please excuse my inaccuracy, i meant that the request wasn't really rejected, but almost, so Svartava decided to withdraw.
- I think fighting spam and LTAs is also a form of IW vandalism and this let me to support this candidate.
- By the way: there are also IW-vandalism-fighters who requested captcha-e and got the flag. (but i am sure that they were able to get GR if they requested it) TenWhile6 (talk | SWMT) 11:17, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

Support of course. The question is just how long for? Per Interface editors#Appointment, By default, appointment will be temporary, lasting any time up to a year. A longer appointment may be requested by long-term interface editors after several successful renewals. 6 previous renewals in this case so it should definitely be longer. Why not make it even longer than 2 years? 3-5 years? Is that reasonable? --Ferien (talk) 22:25, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- As Leaderboard said in the June 2021 request, we could even make it indefinite. If it is prohibited by the policy (which is sorta blurry as it says by default appointment will be temporary, not necessarily if it's requested multiple times), maybe we should change the policy. --Ferien (talk) 22:28, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Abuse filter helper for Count Count

I am an admin and former arb on dewiki and familiar with abuse filters having written and modified a few, though that was some time ago. Now that global filters are being applied on dewiki I would like to help with any problems that occur in particular investigating false positives or suggesting improvements. I have read Abuse filter helpers. --Count Count (talk) 11:02, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Abusefilter maintainer for Daimona Eaytoy
- Global user: Daimona Eaytoy (edits (alt) • CA • global groups • crossactivity • verify 2FA)
I was appointed last year, but the membership expired a few months ago. I am therefore applying again, for the same reasons as last time: according to the AbuseFilter dashboard on logstash, there are several filters that need to be fixed/tweaked. I would use my rights to make maintenance edits as needed, without behaviour changes. I might also use them for maintenance edits to global filters, though I'm planning to make an RfA for that, because I might also have to change the behaviour for some of them (e.g., to avoid false positives). I fulfill the requirements given that I am an administrator on my home wiki (itwiki), have created/maintained a bunch of filters there, and have made lots of contributions to the AF codebase (although I'd no longer say I'm an active maintainer). Thanks, --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 16:36, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

CAPTCHA exemption for A09

Oppose Sorry this time. This seems too early. I am not sure of others but I want to see more effective participation in areas where the global sysopship is helpful. Perhaps next time. ─ The Aafī (talk) 08:47, 2 July 2023 (UTC)
- You do not happen to have any sysop/close to it rights on any wiki, and I would want someone running for this right have a similar experience locally. Hi folks! It had been a year since I have unsuccessfully requested global sysop rights, however much has changed in the past year. I have been appointed to the Ombuds commission by the WMF and gained more admin experience since I am again a temporary admin on ukwiki. A lot of sysops on certain projects don't know stuff beyond deleting pages or so, and I would deem them as not eligible for any of the roles here. At the moment I live in Russia where a total blocking of Wikipedia is very possible. In this case, I will have to use a proxy. The leadership of the Russian edition of Wikipedia promised permission to all who are patrolling and above, but it will only work on the Russian edition, and my main language on Wikipedia is Basque. --Mapatxea (talk) 15:06, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Theklan: looks like this is mostly for euwiki which may have local blocks that would need a local flag, could you review this request? (I couldn't find a request page on euwiki to refer the requester to). — xaosflux Talk 13:19, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Mapatxea most of the larger projects block proxies locally, so you will need local flags. We generally don't preemptively add GIPBE, however if it becomes an issue you may request it later. I suggest you take ruwiki up on the offer, and I've pinged an admin from euwiki above that may be able to help there. — xaosflux Talk 13:21, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that in the event of a total blocking, I will no longer be able to request anything, so I ask in advance in case it is necessary. Thanks for understanding. Mapatxea (talk) 19:24, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
Not done this flag is not for a hypothetical future situation. There are off-wiki ways to request such unblocks as well. — xaosflux Talk 18:24, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

I have been contributing to Wikimedia Foundation Projects close to two years with significant impacts across Wikipedia, Commons Wiki and Wikidata. However, I have been battling with IP block since the expiration of the temporary that was given to me. The IP block has been frustrating my efforts. I will be very happy if I can be granted the exemption, it will allow me to contribute freely across the project. Here is a link to the articles I have created [10], this is also a link to my global contributions. [11]. thanks, --Ibjaja055 (talk) 13:58, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Ibjaja055 you do not appear to have an expired GIPBE, you appear to have an expired local IPBE on your homewiki. GIPBE will not help if you are hitting local blocks. Is your problem with such local blocks? — xaosflux Talk 14:32, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Not done no response from requester, appears to be confused about what they need. — xaosflux Talk 14:28, 29 July 2023 (UTC)

Some scripts of my bot need to run on a VPS (instead of running on toolforge), whose IP is within a blocked range 194.29.186.0/23. I also would like to have a meta-wiki local IPBE flag applied. Thanks/ Stang 09:01, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
Done Globally. I'm not sure our MSR powers extend to granting that locally for a bot. -- Amanda (she/her) 03:50, 30 July 2023 (UTC)

I am requesting GIPBE because I am currently residing in China, and proxy use is required for editing. I already have local IPBE on enwiki, but I'd like to have GIPBE for editing commons, wikidata, and meta. Thanks, --0xDeadbeef (talk) 18:17, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
- @0xDeadbeef: Please check your global rights again. -- Amanda (she/her) 03:45, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
- Oh huh. It looks like I was affected by a local block on Meta. I've submitted an UTRS ticket before this so I guess this request isn't needed. Thanks! 0xDeadbeef (talk) 06:26, 30 July 2023 (UTC)
