Syarikat ini ditubuhkan pada tahun 1976, untuk pengedaran filem dan rancangan televisyen. Pada tahun 1984, Cookie Jar Entertainment mengubah tumpuan mereka daripada pengedaran media untuk pengeluaran, dan memindahkan operasinya ke Montreal, di mana mereka menumpu pada program televisyen anak-anak (termasuk Animal Crackers, Emily of New Moon, Mona the Vampire, and The Wombles), serta dub Bahasa Inggeris dan Perancis daripada siri anime Adventures of the Little Koala, dan The Wonderful Wizard of Oz dan siri TV Sepanyol The World of David the Gnome.
