George Thomas Turnipseed (August 27, 1936 – March 6, 2020) was an American lawyer, politician and activist. He was a Democrat. From 1976 to 1980, he served as a member of the South Carolina Senate from the 8th district. Beginning in the late 1970s, he became active within the civil rights movement.

Turnipseed was born in Mobile, Alabama. He married Judith Turnipseed in 1963. The couple had two children. He died on March 6, 2020 in Columbia, South Carolina of respiratory failure. He was 83.[1]
