Italiano: Il Cantone Ticino (ticinese Tesìn; tedesco, francese e romancio Tessin) è il cantone più meridionale della it:Svizzera, sul versante sud delle it:Alpi. Prende nome dal fiumi Ticino che lo attraversa dalla it:sorgente al it:Passo della Novena (ted. Nufenenpass) fino al it:Lago Maggiore. È in buona parte circondato dall'Italia (it:provincia di Verbania in it:Piemonte, di Varese e Como in Lombardia), con la quale confina a est, ovest e sud, e della quale fa parte geograficamente.
Deutsch: Das Tessin, offiziell Republik und Kanton Tessin (italienisch Repubblica e Cantone Ticino), ist der südlichste Kanton der Schweiz. Zusammen mit den vier Bündner Südtälern Val Mesolcina, Val Calanca, Val Bregaglia und Val Poschiavo bildet es die italienischsprachige Schweiz (Svizzera Italiana).
Höchste Erhebung ist das Adula/Rheinwaldhorn (3402 m ü. M.), der tiefste Punkt (193 m ü. M.) liegt am Lago Maggiore (tiefster Punkt der Schweiz). Das Tessin umfasst den grössten Teil der italienischen Schweiz. Es liegt auf der südlichen Seite des Alpenhauptkamms und ist weitgehend von Italien umgeben; nur im Norden und Nordosten grenzt es an die Kantone Graubünden, Wallis und Uri. Wichtige Akzente setzen die beiden grossen Seen, Lago Maggiore und Lago dei Lugano. Seinen Namen hat der Kanton vom Fluss Ticino, der auf der Südseite des de:Gotthardmassivs am Nufenenpass entspringt, um ab der Kantonshauptstadt Bellinzona nach Westen durch die Magadinoebene fliessend, in den Langensee zu münden. Hauptzuflüsse sind der Brenno aus dem Valle di Blenio und die Moësa aus dem bündnerischen Misox. Auch der übrige Teil des nördlich des Monte Ceneri gelegenen Kantonsteils (de:Sopraceneri) wird in den Lago Maggiore entwässert, durch die Flüsse Maggia und Verzasca. Der südliche Kantonsteil (de:Sottoceneri) entwässert grösstenteils in den Lago di Lugano und von dort über die Tresa ebenfalls in den Lago di Maggiore, dessen Abfluss – wiederum „Ticino“ genannt – wenig unterhalb der Stadt Pavia in den Po mündet.
English: The Canton Ticino or Ticino (Italian: IPA: [tiˈtʃiːno]; French and German: Tessin [tesɛ̃] and [teˈsiːn]; Lombard: Tisín [tizɨŋ]) is the southernmost canton of Switzerland. The written language is Italian in almost the entire canton (except the en:Walser municipality of Bosco Gurin, where it is German). It surrounds the Italian exclave of Campione d'Italia. Together with areas of the canton of Graubünden it makes up the so-called Svizzera Italiana (en:Italian Switzerland). Lombard dialects (en:Ticinese) are still spoken, especially in the valleys, but they are not used for official purposes. It is named after the Ticino river.
Français : Le canton du Tessin' (TI - en italien Cantone Ticino) est un canton de Suisse. Son nom vient de l'affluent du Pô homonyme. Il est le seul canton exclusivement italophone puisque le canton des Grisons, l'autre canton suisse abritant des italophones, est trilingue (italien, allemand et romanche).
