When I saw this used on a file page, I was mystified as to it's meaning. After scratching my head, I decided that it meant hide/show the associated content. I was even more confused when I clicked on it and got dumped on the edit page. Would anyone object if I replace this with a small pencil icon? Here's a nice one: Kaldari (<span class="signature-talk">talk</span>) 18:07, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

:Nevermind, I see that this is usually used at the end of a list, in which case it is at least understandable. I should change non-list uses to Edit-int. Kaldari (<span class="signature-talk">talk</span>) 22:51, 5 July 2012 (UTC)

Protection

I have protected this template from edits by anonymous users, because changes to this template will show up in several well exposed places, especially on policy pages. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 19:26, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There are 176K links to it. There were three edits to it in the last half hour, and the job queue is toast as a result. Please protect it completely and never change it again. -- Tim Starling 17:28, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done. -- Duesentrieb(?!) 21:29, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Now there's 2,210,798 links. I so want to tweak some whitespace or something. :) Seriously though, is this still a big issue because 2.2M is a helluva lot more 176K. Like what would happen if I just made one edit? (not saying I want to - just curious.) - Rocket000 11:41, 18 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

preload parameter

How about adding preload parameter? It can be helpful for translation of POTD description from localized Main Page. – Kwj2772 (msg) 05:03, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

 Support! I propose following code:
[{{fullurl:{}|action=edit{{#if:{{{2|{}}}}|&preload={{{2|{}}}}|}}}} +/−]
--Kaganer (talk) 23:05, 29 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I added preload and also editintro in case of use. :) – Kwj2772 (msg) 10:29, 19 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replacing with a more appropriate symbol

In 18 years of website development, I've never before seen "+/-" used to mean "edit". "+/-" has 2 recognized meanings:

 1. uncertainty range
 2. relative score statistic in sports

When I saw this used on a file page, I was mystified as to it's meaning. After scratching my head, I decided that it meant hide/show the associated content. I was even more confused when I clicked on it and got dumped on the edit page. Would anyone object if I replace this with a small pencil icon? Here's a nice one: Kaldari (talk) 18:07, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, I see that this is usually used at the end of a list, in which case it is at least understandable. I should change non-list uses to Edit-int. Kaldari (talk) 22:51, 5 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
