Zu meiner Vorgehensweise: Best practice (deutsch). Und es sei erwähnt, dass ich gleichartige und eher langweilige Änderungen mit einem Bot erledige. So manche in den Augen des Betrachters sinnlose Änderung einfacher Natur wird automatisch irgendwann wieder rückgängig gemacht, sinnvoll erscheinende oder immer wieder durch Dritte aus meiner Sicht eher unwichtige Änderungen werden von mir im Bot aufgenommen, so dass alle meine Bilder davon profitieren. |

Feature news
- Editors using the Visual Editor in languages that use non-Latin characters for numbers, such as Hindi, Manipuri and Eastern Arabic, may notice some changes in the formatting of reference numbers. This is a side effect of preparing a new sub-referencing feature, and will also allow fixing some general numbering issues in Visual Editor. If you notice any related problems on your wiki, please share details at the project talkpage.
Bugs status
- Some logged-in editors were briefly unable to edit or load pages last week. These errors were mainly due to the addition of new linter rules which led to caching problems. Fixes have been applied and investigations are continuing.
- Editors can use the IP Information tool to get information about IP addresses. This tool is available as a Beta Feature in your preferences. The tool was not available for a few days last week, but is now working again. Thank you to Shizhao for filing the bug report. You can read about that, and 28 other community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week.
Project updates
- There are new features and improvements to Phabricator from the Release Engineering and Collaboration Services teams, and some volunteers, including: the search systems, the new task creation system, the login systems, the translation setup which has resulted in support for more languages (thanks to Pppery), and fixes for many edge-case errors. You can read details about these and other improvements in this summary.
- There is an update on the Charts project. The team has decided which visualization library to use, which chart types to start focusing on, and where to store chart definitions.
- One new wiki has been created: a Wikivoyage in Czech (

Category:Lofts in Norway

Feature news
Two new parser functions will be available this week:
{{#dir}}and{{#bcp47}}. These will reduce the need forTemplate:DirandTemplate:BCP47on Commons and allow us to drop 100 million rows from the "what links here" database. Editors at any wiki that use these templates, can help by replacing the templates with these new functions. The templates at Commons will be updated during the Hackathon at Wikimania. [2][3]- Communities can request the activation of the visual editor on entire namespaces where discussions sometimes happen (for instance Wikipedia: or Wikisource: namespaces) if they understand the known limitations. For discussions, users can already use DiscussionTools in these namespaces.
- The tracking category "Pages using Timeline" has been renamed to "Pages using the EasyTimeline extension" in TranslateWiki. Wikis that have created the category locally should rename their local creation to match.
Project updates
- Editors who help to organize WikiProjects and similar on-wiki collaborations, are invited to share ideas and examples of successful collaborations with the Campaigns and Programs teams. You can fill out a brief survey or share your thoughts on the talkpage. The teams are particularly looking for details about successful collaborations on non-English wikis.

Buchen in NRW
[edit]Hallo Dietmar,
wie Du es wohl kaum übersehen hast, habe ich damit begonnen, alle Buchen-Bilder in NRW nach Landkreis resp. kreisfreie Stadt und nach Monat/Jahr zu verkategorisieren. Im Gegensatz zu Quercus in North Rhine-Westphalia halte ich die Kategorie Fagus in North Rhine-Westphalia im übrigen für obsolet, da es faktisch nur Rotbuchen mit diversen Subspezies gibt. In der Kategorie Fagus sylvatica in Haltern am See habe ich Buchen-Bilder, die ich mehr oder weniger deutlich als solche erkennen konnte zusammengefasst. Wahrscheinlich gibt es da noch mehr Kandidaten, die ich aber nicht klar erkennen konnte. Gruß anro (talk) 22:39, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
- Du bist auf jeden Fall einen Schritt weiter als ich. Ich erkenne die Bäume in der Regel gar nicht. Ich fotografiere zwar gerne Bäume, aber welche Spezies es ist, bleibt mir oft verschlossen. --XRay 💬 05:10, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Thank you re: templates
[edit]Dietmar, great work on adding the "Countries of South America" template to so many categories in Commons. It's a real aid for these architecture and art images, there's a lot of reasons you'd want to quickly navigate to a different country--number one being it's much easier to follow an existing naming convention for images if it's even available. You probably deal with the fact that 1:1 translation of terms is more of an ideal than a reality. English to Portuguese gets fuzzy quickly, but Spanish can help. Thanks! Prburley (talk)
- Thank you! By the way, I have less to do with language problems. I use fixed schemas used by Commons. These are usually in English and with Latin letters. Behind this is a longer analysis phase, a lot of configuration data and a script that analyzes the category inventory on the one hand and makes the changes on the other. I react immediately to any changes that are reset so that they do not occur again. Most of the changes (I estimate more than 98 percent) are OK. A few may be unnecessary, for example if only one entry/country appears in the navigation. But this still makes sense, as a category like this is often used as a copy template. --XRay 💬 06:22, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
- That behind the scenes info is very interesting. I'll say that I don't think any templates are unnecessary if there's only one country in the navigation--it often points to a bigger problem.
- Question: could the sub-national template States of Brazil: Acre · Alagoas · Amapá · Amazonas · Bahia · Ceará · Espírito Santo · Goiás · Maranhão · Mato Grosso · Mato Grosso do Sul · Minas Gerais · Pará · Paraíba · Paraná · Pernambuco · Piauí · Rio de Janeiro · Rio Grande do Norte · Rio Grande do Sul · Rondônia · Roraima · Santa Catarina · São Paulo · Sergipe · Tocantins · Distrito Federal (Brasil)similarly be performed programmatically in some way? I use it heavily for Wiki Loves Monuments, and it could go in the request queue for the Wiki Movimento Brasil programmers.
- Just trivia: categorizing Catholic saints and Marian apparitions in Brazil is very complex, and I often rely on the German file names--from Catholic art in Austria!
