The copyright in US has not expired yet. The author Hazari Prasad Dwivedi died in 1979 and the copyright of their works will expire in 2049. See also the relevant DMCA request (same author).

The U.S. copyright would be 95 years from publication, not 70pma. When were they published? Pretty much certain to have been restored by the URAA (definitely if published in India), so the given PD-1996 tags would not be correct, but the undeletion year may depend on year of publication (would all be PD in India in 2040).
