English: Things are coming to life here in Nova Scotia, it was a great winter but now is time for new growth.
This is a species of rhododendron which people grow as ornamental plants. But this is our native rhododendron, rhododendron canadense. Blooms in the month of May and into June, it is one of the dominant spring-flowering shrubs is seen on the edges of bogs and in the rocky barrens. The plants first puts out its blossoms, then its leaves. The stems of this shrub are woody and wiry; its leaves, thin and deciduous. |
