===Fuel depot===
For a few years in the 1980s, the grocery had an associated fuel depot for gasoline sales.<ref name="SpRvCentennial"/> Anderson's Grocery had five underground storage tanks installed in 1986 and the tanks were subsequently removed in early December 1997.<ref name="Wrkst2021">{{citation |title=Site Hazard assessment Worksheet 1: summary score sheet |year=2012 |url=https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/cleanupsearch/site/10518#site-documents |website=Washington Department of Ecology |access-date=June 20, 2024}}</ref> The fuel depot consistedwas comprised of a {{cvt|1000|USgal|L}}, a {{cvt|2500|USgal|L}}, and three {{cvt|4000|USgal|L}} tanks along with a pump island<ref name="Wrkst2021"/> in the northwestern corner of the parking lot area<ref name="Assesm1993">{{citation |title=Republic soil gas survey; Republic, Washington, September 1993 |year=1993 |url=https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/documents/94130.pdf |website=Washington Department of Ecology |access-date=June 20, 2024 |page=Fig 2 |archive-date=June 20, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240620180424/https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/documents/94130.pdf |url-status=live }}</ref>

While all five tanks were reported in good condition, having no corrosion or holes when removed, the soil beneath the {{cvt|2500|USgal|L}} and {{cvt|4000|USgal|L}} tanks did contain fuel contamination, as did the area under the pump island.<ref name="Wrkst2021"/> In the early 1990s there were reports of gasoline odor in homes towards the south end of Republic and near the city water wells. A 1993 initial soil gas survey identified three possible sources for the fuel leak. In addition to the Anderson's fuel depot, a former [[Texaco]] station also on Clark had a leaking gasoline pipe in 1986 that had not been initially reported, while a utility shop on the corner of 6th Avenue and South Kean Street, 1 block west of the Texaco site, had a diesel spill around 1989 leading to the underground storage tank there being removed.<ref name="Assesm1993"/> Cleanup on the Anderson's Grocery property involved the removal of the contaminated soil down to bedrock at a depth of approximately {{cvt|8.5|ft|m}} and infilling of the area with clean soils before paving with asphalt.<ref name="Wrkst2021"/> Anderson's and the former Texaco site are still monitored due to being less than {{cvt|1|mi|km}} away from the three city water wells, which are classified by Washington state in the "high susceptibility" category for potential contamination.<ref name="Wellheads2009">{{citation |last1=San Juan |first1=C. |year=2009 |title=Leaking Underground Storage Tank (LUST) Sites Near Sensitive Wellheads |url=https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/documents/0909048.pdf |website=Washington Department of Ecology |access-date=June 20, 2024 |page=81 |archive-date=June 13, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20240613173048/https://apps.ecology.wa.gov/publications/documents/0909048.pdf |url-status=live }}</ref>
