Barramundi (Lates calcarifer) or giant perches are a type of fish found in Northern Australia. They are prized for their superb eating and fighting qualities. Barramundi are usually a pale grey-green with a coppery shimmer and can grow to 120 pounds, but fish over 50 pounds are not commonly seen. They inhabit the salt rivers of Queensland, and range into the Northern Territory and Western Australia. Barramundi are good at avoiding fixed nets so line fishing is the best way to catch them.
