A [[Game Gear]] port was developed by [[M2 (game developer)|M2]]. Sega asked M2 if they wanted to make a Game Gear game after being impressed by their ''[[Gauntlet (1985 video game)|Gauntlet]]'' port for the Genesis. M2 wanted to port ''[[The Cliffhanger: Edward Randy]]'', but they were ultimately handed ''Gunstar Heroes''. Gunstar heroes was featured along with Alex Kidd in the Enchanted castle, Flicky and Altered Beast in Classic Collection, a compilation cart by SEGA released in 1996. This compilation has been sold only in PAL territories.
