Mastiffs are large, solidly built dogs. Many mastiff breeds are used for search and rescue, like the Saint Bernard. Also used as guard dogs, due to their deep voices. Most Mastiff breeds come from the British Isles and points farther north. This accounts for their thick coats and solid build.
