A featured topic (FT) is a collection of inter-related articles in which at least half are featured articles or featured lists. The remaining articles must be at least good quality.

A good topic (GT) is a collection of inter-related articles that are of a good quality (though are not necessarily featured articles) with a less stringent quality threshold than a featured topic.

This page is for the nomination of potential featured and good topics. See the featured and good topic criteria for criteria on both types of topic.

Before nominating a topic, nominators may wish to receive feedback by listing it at the Featured and good topics talk page. Nominators must be sufficiently familiar with the subject matter and sources to deal with objections during the FTC/GTC process. If you nominate something you have worked on, note it as a self-nomination. Nominators who are not significant contributors to the articles of the topic should consult regular editors of the articles prior to nomination. Nominators are expected to respond positively to constructive criticism and to make an effort to address objections promptly.

The featured and good topics coordinators Aza24, MaranoFan and Kyle Peake determine the timing of the process for each nomination. For a nomination to be promoted to FT or GT status, consensus must be reached for a group to be promoted to featured or good topic status. If enough time passes without objections being resolved, nominations will be removed from the candidates topic and archived.

To contact the FGTC coordinators, please leave a message on the FGTC talk page, or use the {{@FGTC}} notification template elsewhere.

Nomination procedure

To create a new nomination use the form below (e.g., Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Saffron/archive1) and click the "Create new nomination" button.

Once the nomination page is created, remember to transclude it in the appropriate section below, to leave nomination templates on the talk pages of the articles nominated for the topic. For detailed instructions on how to nominate topics or add articles to existing topics, see Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure.

Supporting and objecting

Please review all the articles of the nominated topic with the featured and good topic criteria in mind before deciding to support or oppose a nomination.

  • To edit nominations in order to comment on them, you must click the "edit" link to the right of the article nomination on which you wish to comment (not the overall page's "edit this page" link).
  • If you approve of a nomination, write '''Support''' followed by your reasons. Supports that clearly evaluate the criteria will be weighted more than those that do not.
  • If you oppose a nomination, write '''Oppose''' or '''Object''' followed by the reason for your objection. Each objection must provide a specific rationale that can be addressed. If nothing can be done in principle to fix the source of the objection, the objection may be ignored.
    • To withdraw an objection, strike it out (with <s>...</s>) rather than removing it.

For a topic to be promoted to featured or good topic status, consensus must be reached that it meets the criteria. The FGTC coordinators are usually the ones to assess this consensus and close FGTC discussions. If there is a consensus to promote, the promote instructions are located here. If enough time passes without objections being resolved (at least one week), nominations will be removed from the candidates list and archived. Nominations will stay here for ten days if there is unanimous consent, or longer if warranted by debate.

2008 Summer Olympics

The 2008 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXIX Olympiad and officially branded as Beijing 2008, were an international multi-sport event held from 8 to 24 August 2008, in Beijing, China. A total of 10,942 athletes from 204 National Olympic Committees competed in 28 sports and 302 events. China, who was hosting the Olympics for the first won, won the most gold medals (48) while an unprecedented 87 countries won at least one medal.

I happened to notice that Wikipedia:Featured topics/1952 Winter Olympics exists and, in looking for lists to work on, I noticed that the same set of lists were also promoted for the 2008 Summer Olympics. As such, I'd like to nominate it for featured topic status. The main article was promoted to GA in 2013 and survived a GA re-assessment in 2023. The medal table list was promoted in 2008 and the medal winners and venues lists were promoted in 2009. Note that I haven't contributed to the topic, I'm just nominating the set since it matches another topic. Hey man im josh (talk) 18:09, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment: Josh, this would need a short paragraph at the top to satisfy the topic criteria. You could probably adapt it from the lead of 2008 Summer Olympics. TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 18:55, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TechnoSquirrel69: Blech, Wikipedia:Featured and good topic candidates/Nomination procedure needs a rework... I've added something brief since it's not clear to me just how much / what the nominators would want for this. Hey man im josh (talk) 19:08, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment: I get that this topic directly matches the 1952 Winter equivalent, I'd actually argue that the 1952 topic is incomplete without the torch relay article as it is in the primary category (it was created in 2012, after the topic was passed in 2011). The problem is that Wikipedia's coverage of the 2008 Summer Games is much more extensive than that of the 1952 Winter edition. There are many more articles which could very well be included in a topic which covers the tournament in whole, such as the chronological summary, bids, opening and closing ceremonies, and controversies (and possibly more). Idiosincrático (talk) 20:01, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Comment There are a lot of articles in Category:2008 Summer Olympics, a few feel relevant. I'd expect for example 2008 Summer Olympics opening ceremony in any complete topic. CMD (talk) 00:37, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Coordinators: I'm happy to withdraw this nomination. I brought it up on the Discord and others encouraged a nomination. I do agree with the concerns raised, but I myself am not interested in completing the work that would be required to make this into a topic. I just figured I'd nominate it based on the other topic was all :) Hey man im josh (talk) 13:10, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@FGTC coordinators: I don't love to do this, but I since it's been a few days, I thought I'd ping to clear this out of the way. Hey man im josh (talk) 14:05, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Closed with a consensus not to promote and nominator's withdrawal there is no reason to keep this nomination open, thereby I declare it closed best of luck for next time! --K. Peake 21:06, 19 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1989 (album) (4th supplementary nomination)

This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1989 (album) for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:

  1. I Wish You Would
  2. All You Had to Do Was Stay

i created the article for i wish you would, and promoted it to ga status. fortunately, it still has the required amount of featured articles for this ft to remain as a featured topic. yay brachy08 (chat here lol) 02:03, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: I am curious which recent event made "I Wish You Would" suddenly notable, and why the same notability would not extend to songs like "How You Get the Girl" (whose Taylor's version charted two spots lower in Canada and nine in the US) and "I Know Places" (three spots lower in Canada and five in the US). It would be preferable not to delay those, if they are notable already, just because there aren't enough FAs for the topic to remain featured.--NØ 09:55, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hold for All You Had to Do Was Stay, which was GA-nominated just five days after the nomination. I would personally like to see the other two tracks on the standard edition join the topic together in the next addition. This really does not need to go through four different addition processes.--NØ 14:28, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Wait – per above. Idiosincrático (talk) 12:19, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support – although I don't really like the thought of holding the creation of new articles for the sake of a topic's status, I see that there is little motivation in creating these articles at the moment. As a result I support the nomination per the current collection of Wiki's articles, as I guess you can't oppose based on articles people can't or are unwilling to make (again it could be that these songs aren't notable enough to even have articles). I think in future, if there are more articles to make for a potential topic, a GTC discussion should probably be delayed until the new articles are created. Idiosincrático (talk) 14:06, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support - albeit we have to agree not every track is worth an article, specially those that need some extensive research to just get enough material to write about. Not that this subtracts from your dedication. igordebraga 02:28, 6 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Meghan Trainor albums (1st supplementary nomination)

This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/Meghan Trainor albums for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:

  1. Timeless (Meghan Trainor album)

In this update to the Trainor albums topic, her latest album, Timeless, joins the ranks after being promoted to GA.--NØ 04:31, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

1993 Atlantic hurricane season (1st supplementary nomination)

This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/1993 Atlantic hurricane season for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:

  1. Timeline of the 1993 Atlantic hurricane season

This supplemental nomination adds the season's timeline, which passed FLC a couple days ago. Currently a good topic, the inclusion of the timeline would result in the topic having 50% featured content and therefore being upgraded to a featured topic. The history of the National Hockey League begins with the end of its predecessor league, the National Hockey Association (NHA), in 1917. After unsuccessfully attempting to resolve disputes with Eddie Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts, executives of the three other NHA franchises suspended the NHA, and formed the National Hockey League (NHL), replacing the Livingstone team with a temporary team in Toronto, the Arenas. The NHL's first quarter-century saw the league compete against two rival major leagues—the Pacific Coast Hockey Association and Western Canada Hockey League—for players and the Stanley Cup. The NHL first expanded into the United States in 1924 with the founding of the Boston Bruins, and by 1926 consisted of ten teams in Ontario, Quebec, the Great Lakes region, and the Northeastern United States. At the same time, the NHL emerged as the only major league and the sole competitor for the Stanley Cup; in 1947, the NHL completed a deal with the Stanley Cup trustees to gain full control of the Cup. The NHL's footprint spread across Canada as Foster Hewitt's radio broadcasts were heard coast-to-coast starting in 1933.

Good topic nominations

Kanye West studio albums (2nd supplementary nomination)

This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/Kanye West studio albums for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:

  1. Vultures 1

I have now brought West's latest collaborative effort Vultures 1 with Ty Dolla Sign to GA status just under half a year after its release, although the nomination had been initiated well within the retention period! Having gone number one in multiple countries, the album is a worthy addition to the topic (shout out ULPS for working with me on the article) however I would like to check in retrospect with comments below is there a consensus if Donda 2 should still be included after West revealed it was a demo album? --K. Jesus Is King (1st supplementary nomination)

This topic is already featured. It is being re-nominated to add additional items. See Wikipedia talk:Featured topics/Jesus Is King for discussions of the topic's previous nominations. The additional items are:

  1. "God Is"
Contributor(s): K. Peake, Nice4What

After doing more research around four and a half years following the release of Jesus Is King, I managed to find enough sourcing to make an article for "God Is" and have brought it to GA status already to be added to the album's topic now the song is no longer a mere redirect! --K. Topic removal candidates

SM UB-14 was delisted from GA on April 7 and was not re-promoted or nominated at GAN within 3 months of the delisting. As a result, it currently fails criteria 3B. -- ZooBlazer 23:49, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The topic is missing two articles: Hurricane Jova (2023) and Hurricane Otis. The topic currently fails criteria 1D. -- ZooBlazer 00:08, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The topic is missing Hurricane Otis which had until July 2 to be at least nominated at GAN. Hurricane Dora (2023) is also missing. The topic currently fails criteria 1D. -- ZooBlazer 00:21, 1 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The Intercontinental Cup (IC) winning manager list did not exist at the time of promotion in 2008. Similar to the winning clubs topic, the IC was a UEFA-organised club competition and is included in the lead's list. Unless someone promotes the list, this topic does not satisfy the criteria for a complete topic (criteria 1. d). Idiosincrático (talk) 14:05, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Comment I plan on doing some work on the IC winning managers this weekend, and will nominate it at FLC once the IC finals list has a bit more support. NapHit (talk) 21:41, 18 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @NapHit, just wanted to check in and see how this is going? Aza24 (talk) 21:21, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I've fixed the accessibility issues on the tables and I'm going to tidy up the lead over the weekend and then nominate it at FLC now that my current list has three supports. NapHit (talk) 21:30, 3 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update The Intercontinental Cup list is now at FLC. NapHit (talk) 21:04, 7 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
