The Nineteenth Congress of the Philippines (Filipino: Ikalabinsiyam na Kongreso ng Pilipinas) is the current meeting of the national legislature of the Philippines, composed of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The convention of the 19th Congress was followed by the 2022 presidential election, the 2022 Senate election, which replaced half of the Senate membership, and the 2022 House of Representatives elections which determined the entire membership of the House of Representatives.

The House of Representatives meets in the Batasang Pambansa Complex and the Senate also meets in the GSIS Complex, with a scheduled move in 2024 to its new building in Navy Village, Taguig, from 2022 to a certain date in 2025, from the first to third year of the presidency of Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.; this is the end of tenure for senators elected in 2019. The 19th Congress was officially opened by the newly elected president, together with the joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives. The 19th Congress is also the first since the 10th Congress that no senator is from the Liberal Party.

Potential leadership

Following the 2022 elections, Juan Miguel Zubiri, Cynthia Villar, and Imee Marcos were floated as possible successors of incumbent Senate President Vicente Sotto III, while in the House of Representatives, Martin Romualdez was named as a possible next Speaker, with a possible comeback of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for the Speakership also seen or possible retention of incumbent Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

However, both houses moved to determine their leadership succession by endorsing resolutions to designate Juan Miguel Zubiri as Senate President after Imee Marcos preferred a committee chairmanship, while Cynthia Villar withdrew from the race.[2] Meanwhile, the House of Representatives endorsed Martin Romualdez with then-incumbent speaker Velasco and former president and speaker Arroyo expressing support.[3][4]
