On October 14, 2019 6 people were killed during a shoot out between drug gangs in the el residencial Ernesto Ramos Antonini de Río Piedras^[1], Río Piedras area of San Juan Puerto Rico.^[2] It was later reported that there were 8 fatalities, 7 men and one women.^[3]

5th in a wave of shootings

The shooting led to alarm partly because it followed an earlier shooting in the same area that resulted in 2 deaths.^[4] News reports are of earlier shootings in other areas, one in Cayey resulting in 3 deaths^[5] and another in a gas station that resulted in 3 deaths^[6] The first in this series of massacres was 3 people in Ciales on June 10th^[7].

Reactions

The governor of Puerto Rico Wanda Vasquez Garced held emergency meetings.^[8]

In The Bronx, NY a vigil for the victims was held.^[9]
