Charity Standish is a fictional character on NBC's daytime drama Passions, played by Molly Stanton at the show's debut from July 14, 1999 - July 22, 2004, on contract. She was portrayed by Kristina Sisco from November 15, 2006 - February 8, 2007 on recurring status. An imposter impersonating Charity named Carla during 2006–2007 was played by Tess Alexandra Parker. Born to Faith Standish and an unknown man, Charity has the power to channel the forces of good. She was not aware of these powers for the first fifteen years of her life, leading a very sheltered life.

Character history

Her mother Faith Standish loved her dearly but feared for her daughter's life, believing that evil forces were out to destroy the Standish family. Faith died in a house fire (implied to be an arson attack, but actually caused by the witch (Tabitha Lenox), and so Charity came to live with her aunt's family early in the series. Charity and Miguel fell in love, and so her cousin Kay hates her. Charity also was gifted with precognition

Kay did everything she could even sold her own soul and used the powers of darkness to create a gigantic rift between Charity and Miguel. She was, however, generally well-liked until a spell caused her to nearly seduce her cousin Jessica Bennett's boyfriend Reese. Feeling guilty over this, she decided to be a "bad girl", as she no longer felt worthy of being a sympathetic type. Charity acted out as a woman of ill repute, kissing Reese in front of Jessica on several occasions. Eventually Charity gave up on this type of behavior as it wasn't who she was. After learning that Kay's baby would die in a miscarriage, she made a deal with Death to end her relationship with Miguel and leave Harmony if Kay's baby were to live. Miguel, unable to accept their relationship had ended, left Kay and their child to go find and convince Charity to return to town. Miguel later returned, saying he had given up on his search and no longer has feelings for Charity.

"Charity" returned on November 15, 2006. Kay's fiancee Fox Crane, determined to rid himself of Kay and Miguel's relationship, contacted Charity saying that it was "a matter of life and death". She supposedly returned to Harmony on the night of Kay's bridal shower. The Charity that Fox brought to town was eventually revealed to be an impostor wearing a Charity mask. The fake Charity and fake Miguel were hired to prentend to sleep together so that Kay would catch them together and marry Fox. Fox's plan worked; Kay broke things off with Miguel and married Fox. It was later revealed that the real Charity has been living on an island in the Bahamas. Miguel called her for help with Kay but she has yet to return to Harmony. She said over the phone that she is happy with her life, and does not wish to return to Harmony, as it is a place with many bad memories for her. She returned to Harmony briefly after hearing of her Aunt Grace's death; she would leave the next day, off-screen. However, the real Charity and Miguel never made love. If they did, their combined forces of good would destroy the all evil in Harmony, including Tabitha and Endora. The fake Charity is still hanging around town, and has had some close calls with being exposed as an imposter, such as when Miguel bumped into her without the mask on at the hospital and when Jessica recognized her without her mask on at a restaurant.

In 2008 it was revealed that Jessica sought shelter with Charity in a convent she was living in the Bahamas. Jessica recuperated and gave birth to her son, Samuel, there. Presumably she and Charity reconciled about her past romance with Reese Durkee.

Look Alikes

Charity was plagued by Tabitha and due to evil spells caused by her Kay, and Hecuba at different points in time Charity's likeness was used by one or the other into creating a doppelgänger of herself. An entity created by Kay known as Zombie Charity plagued Harmony for several months in 2002 later revealing it was a succubus, and still later returning as a ghost. Kay even used Charity's essence to disguise herself as Charity in order to rape her boyfriend Miguel.
