Richard W. "Doc" Urich (September 20, 1928 – April 28, 1997) was an American football player and long time coach.

Coaching career

For 16 years, starting in 1951, Urich was an assistant coach to Ara Parseghian following him to Miami of Ohio, Northwestern and Notre Dame.

In 1966,[1] Urich became the head coach at the University of Buffalo serving from 1966 to 1968.

In 1969, he became the head coach and at Northern Illinois University. Urich was the 12th head football coach for the Northern Illinois University Huskies located in DeKalb, Illinois and he held that position for two seasons, from 1969 until 1970. His career coaching record at Northern Illinois was 6 wins, 14 losses, and 0 ties. This ranks him 14th at Northern Illinois in total wins and 18th at Northern Illinois in winning percentage.[2]

Urich spent 15 years as an assistant coach in the NFL. He died in 1997 of a heart attack.[3]
