Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz (or simply Toto) is an upcoming American computer-animated musical comedy film produced by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and Animal Logic, who provided the animation, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. Directed by Alex Timbers from a screenplay by John August, it is based on the 2017 children's book Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of The Wizard of Oz by Michael Morpurgo.
Plot
"Toto tells the story of his adventure in the land of Oz."[1]
Production
In July 2018, Warner Animation Group announced that it would produce an animated film about Toto, based on the 2017 children's book Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of The Wizard of Oz by Michael Morpurgo, with Mark Burton adapting the book.[2] By January 2020, John August was hired to write the screenplay and Jared Stern would executive produce the film.[1] In October 2020, Alex Timbers was hired to direct.[3] In February 2021, Derek Frey was reported to be producing with animation beginning in late 2021 at the Animal Logic studio in Vancouver, Canada.[4][5]
Release
Toto was originally scheduled to be theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures on February 2, 2024.[6] In April 2023, it was taken off the release schedule with Wise Guys taking over its original release date.[7]
