Kim Hyo-jung (born June 1, 1994), better known by the mononym Dawn, formerly known as E'Dawn, is a South Korean rapper and singer-songwriter.

In 2017, he was involved in the trio Triple H with Pentagon member Hui and Hyuna.

In 2018, Dawn ended his contract with Cube Entertainment after several internal conflicts,[1][2] and signed with Psy's label P-Nation the following year.[3]

Early life

Dawn was born on June 1, 1994 in Hwasun-gun, South Korea.[citation needed]

Career

Pre-debut: Pentagon Maker

On April 26, 2016, Cube Entertainment revealed Pentagon with the trailer, "Come into the World", after hinting at the new boy group in December 2015.[4][5][6]

The final lineup of Pentagon was decided through South Korean television channel Mnet's reality program, Pentagon Maker, which aired online through Mnet's digital content brand M2.[7] He was eliminated, but eventually joined the final lineup.[8]

2016–2018: Debut with Pentagon, Triple H and departure

Pentagon released their first Korean EP Pentagon comprising seven tracks including lead single "Gorilla", and held their debut showcase.[9][10]

On April 4, 2017, Cube Entertainment announced that he would participate in a project group called Triple H alongside Hyuna and Hui[11] and that they would star in a reality show called Triple H Fun Agency.[12] The group debuted on May 1 with an EP, 199X and lead single "365 Fresh".

After Hyuna announced her relationship with E'dawn in August, on September 13, Cube Entertainment announced that they would be terminating their contracts, citing that they could not "maintain trust" with them.[13] On November 14, Cube Entertainment officially confirmed E'Dawn's departure from the group and company.[14]

2019 present: Solo debut

On January 27, 2019, he signed with P-Nation, a new agency founded by Psy since he left YG Entertainment in May 2018.[citation needed]

E'Dawn changed his stage name to Dawn, and made his solo debut on November 5, 2019, with the single "Money".[15]

Personal life

On August 2, 2018, Dawn revealed that he has been dating Hyuna since May 2016.[16]
