The sixth series of the Australian Big Brother began on 22 April 2006.

Auditions for the current set of housemates were held in November and December 2005. The theme for the show is "smart, strong, and looking for a fight". Reports suggest that the show may be running for 17 weeks, a total of around 120 days, making it the longest season to date. Additions to the Big Brother formula for this series include:

  • Viewers are able to vote for housemates they wish to see remain in the house, as well as those they wish to evict.
  • A 'punishment room'. The full role it will play in the program's proceedings and the process by which punishments and sentences are to be handed-out is yet to be revealed.

The launch being aired the night of 23 April (a 24 hour delay). 2006 will also see the re-naming of Big Brother: Uncut to Big Brother: Adults Only. Template:Spoiler

One of the twists this season is that fellow housemates Karen and Krystal are mother and daughter. This was not revealed to the housemates until a week later. Because the housemates failed to uncover their secret, they were exempt from nominations in the first week.

Week 1 highlights

(up to and including Sunday night)

  • Soon after entering the house, housemate Michael was issued with, and accepted, the challenge by Big Brother to act as a secret saboteur in the house. He is to play specific pranks at Big Brother's command, to work against and to annoy housemates, and to attempt to stymie the housemates' attempts to successfully complete assigned tasks. He must remain undetected in these strategies and must keep his role as saboteur secret or risk being put up for eviction.
  • It was revealed to viewers that housemate David is actually gay, but had closeted himself to his fellow housemates. David came out on Wednesday 26 April.
  • Gaelan wins the first Friday Night Live challenge, choosing runner-up Katie as his partner in the rewards room.
  • Krystal revealed to the house that Karen is her mother.
  • Housemates nominate for eviction, resulting in Anna and Camilla being sent to a "revenge room" in a fake early eviction.
  • Sunday night nominations put Claire, Dino, Elise, Tilli and Michael up for eviction.

Week 2 highlights

  • On May 2, the two isolated housemates, Anna and Camilla, were returned to the house in a special daily show entitled Big Brother: Revenge Room Return. Both have one weeks immunity from eviction.
