Badland (stylized BADLAND) is a mobile video game developed by Frogmind Games and released on the iOS and Android platforms.[1] It was released on Windows Phone 8 in June 2014.[2] There will also be a Game of the Year Edition that will be released in Spring 2015 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox One, Wii U and Steam for Linux, Microsoft Windows and OS X.[3]

Plot

The player starts off as one of the creatures in a mysterious forest, where at first, everything seems normal, but there is something wrong about it. Towards the end of the morning, a mysterious machine appears, which when lighted up kills all the creatures shown on the screen. With that, the game progresses onto noon. Then, at the end of day, the machine appears again, at the break of dusk. This time, the light is more powerful. At the end of the evening, an egg-looking object appears, with three small lights, which when the main character passes by, switch on by itself. Then, at the end of the night, the forest suddenly turns red, and the main character is sucked into a huge red portal, similar to the portal at the start of the game. After this, the machine appears again, this time made more evil by the red background.

Reception

The game won Apple Inc.'s 2013 iPad Game of the Year award.[4] It also won the Grand Prix award in the 9th annual International Mobile Gaming Awards.[5] The game has a Metacritic score of 85% based on 20 critic reviews.[6]
