The Hospital was opened in 1968 as a special unit of the [[Bahrain Defense Force|National Guard]] (currently [[Bahrain Defense Force]]) that specialized in treating military personnel. Three decades later, after the hospital was opened, major expansions took place resulting the hospital being the second largest hospital in Bahrain. The hospital currently offers free health care to [[Bahrain Defense Force|BDF]], [[Ministry of Interior (Bahrain)|Ministry of Interior]] and the [[Royal Court of Bahrain|Royal Court]] employees (including their families).
