The Jerusalem College of Technology (JCT), (Hebrew:בית הספר הגבוה לטכנולוגיה בירושלים), is an Orthodox Jewish college. JCT's main campus (Lev and the Neveh Institute) are situated in the Givat Mordechai neighbourhood of Jerusalem. Other branches are located in the Givat Shaul neighbourhood of Jerusalem and Ramat Gan. JCT offers bachelor's degrees in several fields of study combined with intensive Jewish studies.

History

The college founded in 1969 by Professor Ze’ev Lev (William Low), specializes in high-tech engineering, industrial management and life and health sciences. JCT is particularly known for its electro-optics faculty. The institution is fully accredited by the Council for Higher Education in Israel, the main authority overseeing Israel's academic institutions. Some 2,000 students are currently enrolled in the JCT, with a faculty of over 150 professors, instructors and researchers.

Institutes

JCT is the umbrella organization of several institutions:

  • Machon Lev - academic studies combined with yeshiva studies for men.
  • The Neveh Institute - evening school academic studies geared to teaching a profession to Haredi men who had been previously concentrating only on religious studies.
  • The Women’s School of Engineering which includes two campuses:
    • The Tal Institute - academic studies combined with midrasha studies for women.
    • The Lustig Institute - refounded in 1999 and geared toward women. Originally provided preparatory course for CPA certification for 26 years prior, and has now evolved into providing academic studies parallel to the Lev Institute. Campus in Ramat Gan.

JCT also hosts the Business Ethics Center of Jerusalem which includes The Center for Judaism and the Environment.

English Speakers' Program (ESP)

Machon Lev provides a year in Israel program for English speaking students who want a college experience. ESP mimics the regular Israeli program except for the addition of an ulpan to help the english speakers acclimate to Israeli Life. A variety of first year college courses, such as programming, economics, psychology are available to the ESP student. Some classes that are not usually taught first year such as Linear Algebra and Calculus II are also available in English. Several times a year, the English Speakers' Program takes its students on both outdoorsy and indoorsy field trips, including rappelling, paintball, Air force Museum, Acre and the Old City.

Degree programs

JCT awards Bachelor of Science degrees in electronic engineering, applied physics/electro-optical engineering, medical engineering, software engineering, computer sciences, computational chemistry and industrial engineering. Other bachelor degree programs include managerial accounting and information systems, technical management and marketing, and nursing.
