The school has 600 full-time students, between grades 9 and 12. Originally built in 1952, it was expanded with 6 additions in 1989. The school colour is green.
Four main schools feed into KDSS: Huron Heights Public School, Kincardine Township Tiverton Public School, St. Anthony's Catholic School and Ripley Huron Community School (in Ripley, Ontario).
KDSS has numerous athletics teams, and also a FIRST Robotics team called 'The Kinetic Knights'which placed second at the 2011 world championship[1] . Other extracurricular societies include 'Free the Children'[2] , OSAID (Ontario Students Against Impaired Driving), Glee Club and 'Dumbledore's Army' (a Harry Potter fan club).
