It was claimed that a miracle had taken place in the Chapel of Kattachira Church. Kattachira Church (Main Church ) has been closed for many years when Jacobite faction created some tensions. So the richer members of Jacobite Faction created a chapel where this miracle has taken place and Orthodox members who where poorer among them where shifted to Kattanam Orthodox Church to attend the Holy Mass. Main Church has been opened on July 27th 2019 following the Supreme Court verdict on July 3rd 2017.

Kattachira Valiyapalli was built by H.H Baselious Marthoma Mathews II by taking money from Devalokam Aramana since the parish members where poorer.

Some of them are confused about Kattachira Valiyapally (Orthodox ) and Kattachira Chapel Church (Jacobite ) which are the two churches in Kattachira.

Claimed miracle

Since October 21, 2009, aromatic oil resembling tears, has been observed pouring out from the eyes of Saint Mary in a flex photograph placed inside the chapel. It is said that, although this oil is repeatedly wiped away, it continues to flow.[1][2]

Moreover, since November 21, 2009 aromatic oil has also been observed emerging from the Holy Qurbono Taksa held in the Altar of Chapel. Similar oil has also been observed flowing from the Cross placed near the photo and the Apostolic Bull of Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas.[3]

History

The history of Kattachira Church is as follows. The Malankara Jacobite Syrian believers originally in Kattanam Church, who remained loyal to the Apostolic Throne of Antioch, needed a new place of worship when an issue brought out by the Indian Orthodox occurred at Kattanam parish, leaving it closed.

The Jacobite faithful subsequently built Kattachira church as a parish ever-loyal to the Throne of Antioch. Unfortunately, Kattachira Church church was also usurped by the Indian Orthodox. This forced the Malankara Jacobite Syrian believers of Kattachira main church to build Kattachira chapel to worship in. At Kattachira chapel, many miracles occurred, including myrrh-bearing icons of St. Mary. By God's providence, the High Court of Kerala ruled justly in favour of the Jacobite Syrians and the main Kattachira Church was returned to the rightful owners. Unfortunately, the July 3rd 2017 verdict of the Supreme Court granted ownership of Kattachira main church to the Indian Orthodox, even though only a handful of Indian Orthodox individuals attend there. The Indian Orthodox once gain usurped Kattachira Church by breaking and entering the parish. The Indian Orthodox desecrated the images of the saints, and burnt the Patriarchal flag in the Church compound.

Global Marian Pilgrim center

Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas declared the chapel as a Global Marian Pilgrim Centre in November 2009.[4]

Apostolic visit

The Patriarch of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch Ignatius Aphrem II visited the church in February 15, 2015, offered incense prayer. attended a public function and delivered a Holy Speech.[5]
