This is a list of episode summaries from the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG, Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. Solid State Society, and Ghost in the Shell: Tachikoma Days television animes.

1st GiG
This is a list of episodes of the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series.
The first season has two types of episodes: "Standalone (SA)" episodes, and "Complex (C)" episodes. Episodes designated SA are stand-alone episodes, while those designated C are tied in with the Laughing Man storyline. Each episode has two names, a proper title and a subtitle.
===1. SA: Public Security Section 9 – SECTION-9===
Major Kusanagi and Section 9 are called in to resolve a hostage crisis at a Geisha house staffed by android geisha. While the crisis is averted there is more to it.
===2. SA: Runaway Evidence – TESTATION===
A heavy-assault multiped tank runs amok under the control of an unknown hijacker. After going on a destructive spree at the Kenbishi Industries testing facility, the multiped takes off towards the urban area of Niihama. Kusanagi briefs her squad at Section 9 HQ, explaining that the multiped's designer, Takeshi Kago, died a week before, and that no terrorist organization has claimed credit for the heist. Since the military refuses to get involved unless terrorism is the motive, Section 9 is called in to stop the tank.
===3. SA: A Modest Rebellion – ANDROID AND I===
A series of android suicides prompts Section 9 to investigate the manufacturer. While Section Head Daisuke Aramaki (Aramaki Daisuke) questions the plant manager, Kusanagi and a Tachikoma covertly hack into the plant's database to try and uncover any possible wrongdoings by the manufacturer. As it turns out, all the androids were of the same model, an obsolete product known as the GA07_JL android, dubbed the Jeri by its small but loyal fanbase. The Genesis Jeri-model android was popular because of the ease with which an end-user could modify it to their own specifications, not unlike the Sony AIBO. While the plant manager half-jokingly comments that the Jeri's have grown despondent because of their obsolete status, Kusanagi discovers that a virus has been inserted into the mainframe, probably by an end-user who had sent his Jeri back to Genesis for refurbishing.
===4. C: The Visual Device will Laugh – INTERCEPTER===
An old friend of Togusa's named Yamaguchi is murdered after sending him pictures concerning an unsolved case involving a hacker known as "The Laughing Man". His investigation leads to the discovery that the members of the Laughing Man task force have all been implanted with cybernetic surveillance devices called 'intercepters', which reside in the vision center of the subject's brain, recording everything they do.
===5 C: The Inviting Bird will Chant – DECOY===
During a press conference called by the Police to announce their 'findings' regarding the intercepter devices, the mysterious hacker known as The Laughing Man returns, hijacking an Police official's cyber-brain and delivering a threat to the Superintendent-General. Section 9 suspects that the Police Investigators handling the Laughing Man case are using their primary suspect, a former Serano Genomics, Inc. programmer with a shady anti-corporate past named Nanao=A, as a decoy to hide some form of higher-level corruption.
===6. C: The Copycat will Dance – MEME===
Things go fairly haywire as Kusanagi suspects that The Laughing Man has inserted a virus into the police units guarding the Superintendent-General. Aramaki orders Section 9 to open their own investigation into the Laughing Man case.
===7. SA: Idolatry – IDOLATER===
Jenoma revolutionary leader Marcelo Jarti has been visiting Japan regulary every five months. Section 9 wants to know why.
===8. SA: The Fortunate Ones – MISSING HEARTS===
Kurutan, a friend of Kusanagi's, calls the Major to the hospital where she works to look into the source of a young girl's heart transplant. It seems that the heart she received was given without consent of the owner's parents. The girl's doctors feared she might have had to be given a full-cyborg conversion, a thought that stirs painful memories for Kusanagi.
===9. C: The Man Who Dwells in the Shadows of the Net – CHAT!CHAT!CHAT!===
Kusanagi enters a chat room dedicated to The Laughing Man. Various crackpot theories are passed around JFK-style as the chatroom members view various bits of evidence from the Laughing Man case.
===10. SA: A Perfect Day for a Jungle Cruise – JUNGLE CRUISE===
An American serial killer with an unusual (and brutal) methodology enters Japan and proceeds to leave carnage in his wake: Slicing women's torso skin off in the form of a t-shirt. Batou has seen this before deep in the jungles of South America.
This episode was initially skipped in the YTV broadcast in Canada because of the graphic content. It was later aired uncut on December 31, 2005 at 1:30 AM.
The Adult Swim broadcast in the US included a disclaimer before the episode aired warning viewers about the content.
===11. C: In the Forest of Pupae – PORTRAITZ===
Togusa goes undercover to investigate a social welfare facility following a hacking assault on the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare which originated from the facility in question. Also to be noted with this episode is the similarity between elements contained within it and J. D. Salingers 'The Laughing Man'
===12. SA: Tachikoma Runs Away; The Movie Director's Dream – ESCAPE FROM===
Batou's Tachikoma goes AWOL and encounters a young girl searching for her lost dog. On their journey, the Tachikoma stumbles upon a cyberbrain being sold in Akihabara (electronics district) that contains a ghost. Later, the cyberbrain leads Kusanagi on a soul-searching ghost dive.
===13. SA: Unequal Terrorist – NOT EQUAL===
A band of terrorists claims to have possession of a girl who was kidnapped some years ago. But when Section 9 is called in to resolve the situation, they realize that something is very wrong - the girl is the same age she was when she was kidnapped all those years ago!
===14. SA: Automated Capitalism – ¥€$===
When Section 9 breaks up a cabal of thieves hell bent on wrecking a Japanese financial institution, they are given a lead on an assassination attempt by Chinese Socialists on a prominent, yet reclusive, Japanese multi-millionaire. Section 9 is assigned to guard him. But if they can't even find him, how will they guard him?
===15. SA: Time of the Machines – MACHINES DÉSIRANTES===
Kusanagi's reservations regarding Section 9's Tachikoma units comes to a head. The Major has become disturbed by the behavior of the Tachikomas. Their AIs are developing too fast; she has doubts about their future usefulness. The Tachikomas, vaguely aware of Kusanagi's concerns, hatch a bizarre, but ultimately futile scheme to appeal to Kusanagi and prevent their deactivation.
===16. SA: Chinks in the Armor of the Heart – Ag2O===
Batou goes undercover to spy on Zaitsev, a former Olympic silver medalist whom he admires. He wants his information to be wrong and for Zaitsev to be innocent. What will his operation reveal? The assignment calls into question Batou's attitudes towards his duty towards Section 9 and the decisions it forces him to make.
===17. SA: The True Reason For The Unfinished Love Affair – ANGELS' SHARE===
While Section Head Aramaki is visiting London for an anti-terrorism conference, an old friend of his asks for his help in dealing with her company's corruption.
===18. SA: Assassination Duet – LOST HERITAGE===
An investigation into an alleged assassination plot against a Chinese dignitary brings Aramaki and Section 9 face to face with a very unlikely suspect.
===19. SA: Embraced by a Disguised Net – CAPTIVATED===
Section 9 is called in to investigate the disappearance of a former Prime Minister's daughter, who has been kidnapped for unknown reasons, revealing deep strands of political corruption.

The Laughing Man returns to again kidnap the CEO of Serrano Genomics, just as he did six years before. The Laughing Man asks him why he never fulfilled his promise to tell the truth. He informs the Laughing Man that the whole time, the Secretary General had him under arrest.
===24. C: Sunset in the Lonely City – ANNIHILATION===
Section 9's investigations have started to become a little too successful, and the truths they uncover hit too close to home for some of the higher-ranking officials in the Japanese government. Yet, despite the increasing political backlash the team soldiers on. But even they couldn't imagine that their own government would turn against them. The government has declared war on them, and they begin with an attack on Section 9 headquarters! But even with the latest in technology, will the military be a match for Motoko, Batou, and the rest of the team?
===25. C: Smoke of Gunpowder, Hail of Bullets – BARRAGE===
Ishikawa and Saito are caught in another attack. With Batou and Motoko the only remaining members of Section 9, Batou undertakes a risky sortie to Motoko's apartment to recover her sentimentally-valued watch.
===26. C: Public Security Section 9, Once Again – REDUX===
After his release from jail, Togusa attempts to find information on the rest of the team. But when he sets out to assassinate the man responsible for Section 9's dissolution, he is stopped by none other than Batou.
2nd GiG
This is a list of episodes of the Ghost in the Shell: S.A.C. 2nd GIG series.
Each episode has two names, a proper title and a subtitle. Unlike the first season, the second season has three designations denoting the type of episode: IN, DI, and DU. IN stands for INdividual, DI for DIvidual, and DU for DUal. Episodes designated IN are tied in with the Individual Eleven storyline, while those designated DI are stand alone episodes not strongly tied with the other storylines, and those designated with DU are tied with the Cabinet Intelligence Service & Gohda storyline (though the two main storylines are interrelated):
===1. DI: Reactivation - REEMBODY===
A group of terrorists identifying themselves as the "Individual Eleven" barricade themselves within the Chinese Embassy. The newly-elected Prime Minister Kayabuki promises to reinstate Section 9 if Aramaki and his team can resolve the incident without casualties among the strategically positioned hostages.
===2. DI: Well-Fed Me - NIGHT CRUISE===
This episode follows along the life of a refugee working as helicopter pilot in Japan. While he is angry and depressed, he has greater plans of revenge in the works. One may note several strong references to the film Taxi Driver throughout this episode, which follows many similiar themes (namely a returning ex-soldier, scarred by a war the public wants to forget and focusing his anger outwardly into fantasies of revenge and bloodshed).
===3. DI: Saturday Night and Sunday Morning - CASH EYE===
A hacker and thief by the name of Cash Eye plans on infiltrating a vault during an exclusive high society party, and Section 9 is called in to prevent it... or were they?
===4. DU: Natural Enemy - NATURAL ENEMY===
A routine live fire exercise goes wrong, leaving a fleet of 11 unmanned AI controlled helicopters flying above the Niihama Refugee Residential District, firing on anyone who comes near. Suddenly Aramaki is approached by a representative from the Cabinet Intelligence Agency with a plan of action.
===5. IN: Those Who Have the Motive - INDUCTANCE===
An assassination threat has been made against Prime Minister Kayabuki, and Section 9 is summoned to Fukuoka to protect the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, Ishikawa and Togusa uncover interesting information on the ideology of the Individual Eleven terrorist group.
===6. DI: Latent Heat Source - EXCAVATION===
Togusa is sent to New Tokyo to investigate a lead on who threatened the Department of Energy. While in New Tokyo, he discovers a secret operation to excavate a pre-war Tokyo relic.
===7. DU: The Rhapsodic Melody of a Bygone Nation - 239Pu===
Plans have been leaked to terrorists that plutonium was to be shipped. Section 9 is called in to ensure that the plutonium reaches its destination.
===8. DI: Vegetarian Dinner - FAKE FOOD===
Tired of being manipulated by Gohda, Aramaki decides to take on the initiative to conduct his own investigation on the case of Individual Eleven. While on a stakeout of a Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant, Batou and Togusa find out that someone behind is feeding false information to both Section 9 and Section 1.
===9. DU: The Hope Named Despair - AMBIVALENCE===
With the help of Tachikomas, Major hacks into the Cabinet Intelligence Agency Server Decatoncale to uncover Gohda's motives, while the rest of Section 9 are out to stop a suicide bomber.
===10. DI: One Angry Man - TRIAL===
Togusa is brought up on charges for using excessive force against a murder suspect while off duty.
===11. IN: Kusanagi's Labyrinth - AFFECTION===
While Section 9 is testing out new recruits, the Major wanders into another part of town. This leads her to hear the story of a boy she once knew... Her pre-cyborg days are revealed. An origami crane will give you a clue.
===12. IN: To Those Without Even a Name... - SELECON===
Section 9 recovers a suspicious file believed to be the virus that infected the Individual Eleven. Togusa is sent to search for a copy of "Individual Eleven", the political essay bearing the same name as the terrorist group, but wherever he goes, no one seems to be able produce an actual copy. Meanwhile members of Individual Eleven are gathering in Fukuoka for the last time.
===13. DI: Face - MAKE UP===
After tracking down Kuze's face designer, it is discovered that he has already been killed... by someone imitating Pazu. Pazu tracks down the person imitating him, and she turns out be an ex-lover. They get in a struggle and one dies ... but which one?
===14. DI: Beware the Left Eye -- POKER FACE===
During a poker game, Saito recalls his first run-in with the Major and how he lost his eye.
===15. DI: Afternoon of the Machines - PAT.===
While the other Tachikomas discuss about their newfound individualism, Batou's pet unit gets to meet with the inventor of the Neuro-chip and discovers an important secret about the origin of the Tachikoma AI system.
===16. IN: The Fact of Being There - ANOTHER CHANCE===
The Prime Minister is alerted to the existence of "cyberbrain hubs", while Ishikawa returns from the peninsula to report on what he found out about Kuze's past.
===17. DI: Mother and Child - RED DATA===
The Major heads to Taiwan to investigate a lead on Kuze, and ends up getting involved with the local mafia and a troublesome street kid.
===18. DI: Angel's Poem - TRANS PARENT===
Batou and the Major are sent to Berlin in an international effort to help track down the terrorist Angel Wing. While staking out in a cold night, Batou oversees a blind girl Theresia searching for her father. This episode is an homage to Wim Wenders' Der Himmel über Berlin.
Trivia:
Adult Swim added fart noises when aired for the first time (since it was April Fool's Day). However, when it was reaired later that night the fart noises were left out.
===19. IN: Chain Reaction of Symmetry - CHAIN REACTION===
While tension continues to rise in Dejima refugee camp, the Major hacks into the refugee cyberbrain hub to determine Kuze's whereabouts.
===20. IN: Confusion at the North End - FABRICATE FOG===
After being ambushed by Kuze's followers at a false location, Section 9 is alerted to the true location of Kuze, and his intention to purchase plutonium from the Russian mafia. The Cabinet Intelligence Agency and Gohda are involved behind the scenes.
===21. IN: Escape in Defeat - EMBARRASSMENT===
Kuze manages to escape after completing the trade with the Russian mafia on Etorofu, while Section 9 suffers heavy damage trying to stop him. Kuze flees to Nagasaki harbor with the Russian package. Kusanagi finds further evidence on the island linking the plutonium trade with Gohda.
===22. DU: Abandoned City - REVERSAL PROCESS===
Once again history repeats or imitates itself. The Japanese capital Fukuoka is evacuated after a live nuclear bomb is found planted inside the Kyushu Telecom Tower, presumably by militant refugees. But Batou thinks otherwise and confronts Gohda in this fine summer day just before the storm.
===23. IN: The Day the Bridge Falls - MARTIAL LAW===
Following the Fukuoka nuclear bomb incident, Prime Minister Kayabuki is under pressure from the cabinet to deploy the army to retrieve the remaining plutonium supposedly hidden on Dejima Island. To buy time for Kusanagi's plan to work, Kayabuki requests for UN mediation. When the refugees' connection to Kuze's cyberbrain hub is cut off by Gohda's communication jamming, all hell breaks loose between the barricading refugees and the JGSDF.
===24. IN: Aerial Bombing of Dejima - NUCLEAR POWER===
The Prime Minister is relieved of duty and is taken into custody together with Aramaki. The Major and the rest of Section 9 infiltrate Dejima Island in the hope of presenting the "missing" plutonium to the UN inspection team in time to avoid further bloodshed. Ishikawa heads to SPring-8 Radiation Research Institute to deliver the rest of the plutonium as evidence.
===25. IN: To the Other Side of Paradise - THIS SIDE OF JUSTICE===
The Tachikoma units spot an American ballistic missile submarine carrying nuclear SLBMs off the coast of Okinawa. Meanwhile Batou and the rest of Section 9 are heavily pursued by Section 4, dispatched by the JGSDF to retrieve the plutonium allegedly possessed by the militant refugees. Kusanagi and Kuze find themselves trapped under the rubble during an air-raid conducted by the JMSDF.
===26. IN: Return to Patriotism - ENDLESS∞GIG===
With most members of Section 9 trapped on Dejima Island, only the Tachikomas can prevent the worst-case scenario: nuclear bombing of Dejima Island disguised as militant refugee suicide terrorism. But they have to make a courageous sacrifice. In the meantime, Kuze and Kusanagi discover more about their common past. What will be the final act of the plot written by Gohda and Cabinet Chief Secretary Takakura?
